I replaced the starter cuz I thought that was the problem and it did need replacing but it still didn't work very well. I finally took the bendix out and it was the problem. Not as hard to get at as I thought. So anyways I replaced the bendix and the starting system works flawlessly. I should have done it sooner!

this is awesome and I do need to get another, because i have more than one fourwheeler with this problem. And you need one of these if right after you start your machine there's a terrible grinding noise because this gear isn't disengaging. That happens because there's a spring inside that wears out over time (like 15 years heck 5 years i've just been lazy and not doing it lol) and on my Magnum 500 it was like 6 bolts on the cover and 15 min to finagle the old one out and the new one in, super quick and it saves you the embarrassment of having your quad make that noise, also its probably better for your flywheel and starter.

The bendix arrived as promised. It was the exact fit for my 2004 Polaris 400.

very good part that made it to my house in record time. Very easy fix, and priced a fraction of what the local Polaris dealer I had been dealing with in the past wanted to rip me off for me for. Pro Tech part and a great warrantee.

The bendix works well! Just like its supposed to. The guy at the dealer wanted $350.00 for new bendix and install it. That's way to much for me to pay. He told me not to buy a cheep one. This one works just as well as a $200.00 one! I did it myself in 1.5 hours with no problems. I would buy another one if I have to....

Item was very easily installed. There is still a rattle on startup that disappears after the engine runs for about three seconds. I am unsure if that is a design issue with this Polaris model or if the bendix is not retracting properly. Functionally the product is okay, its just because of the noise that I knocked off two stars.
