It comes assembled with the seal installed. It LEAKED AROUND THE SEAL and required removal of either the engine or transmission to fix the issue! I chose the transmission as it was less work. I replaced the entire cover with a Dorman that doesn't leak. 8 hours of labor lost to a PIECE OF Junk cover. If I could rate it a zero I would.

I would've rated 0 stars I rebuilt the 5.3 in our Suburban. This was carefully installed and correct torque values used in assembly. This seal leaked after the first test drive, about 10 miles. This required pulling the engine out again to replace. My advice is spend the extra money and put a factory GM seal in.

I am doing the most basic of 'LS' swaps, putting an old truck motor into a military hummer. Wanted to seal it up before throwing it in. This seal fit well and seems to be leak free.

Rear main seal was installed backwards from manufacturer
