Raw copper is drawn to meet specific Size requirements based on the National electrical manufacturers Association (NEMA) standards. This magnet wire meets the NEMA mw-80-c standard for operating temperature (155°c/311°f) and insulation makeup. The insulation is made from modified polyurethane with a polyimide overcoat, and protects the coiled wire from short-circuiting.

In a previous life I worked in a transformer shop and built transformers from small 1/2 pound to 100 pound whoppers using many wire sizes and configurations. I have 56 toroid coils to build for amateur radio and this 28 gauge magnet wire is great, I have other wire, but found it needed sanding/scraping to remove the enamel. and was a bit stiff due to the enamel. This wire is like I used before and a solder pot or a hot soldering iron will easily burn off this enamel. The spool is not flimsy and should hold up quite well.As for packing, the spool was wrapped in bubble wrap and in a box that was just right in size. The end of the wire was taped to the spool. If I need other magnet wire, I will be looking to buy more from this supplier.

Great stuff, I probably bought way too much though, works great for winding small magnetic coils, enamel is easy to remove with a lighter and some sandpaper.

Yes. It is really metal! I kid you not!To be exact, it is copper (though with an enamel coating). But apart from its composition, it conducts electricity. Honest! (Electricity is that stuff that makes smartphones run and car batteries able to start cars.)So if you need 28 AWG wire, made of genuine copper with an insulating coat of enamel . . . this coiled puppy is for you!(Some alcohol may have been involved in the writing of this review . . . HIC . . . 'scuze me . . . HIC)

cheap in cost, good quality. We used it in our science class for winding coils to make crystal radios and had no problems.

I volunteered to help teach electricity and circuits to my daughter's 4th-grade class. I bought this spool of wire and a box of 8d nails and took them into class. By the time I was done, every kid in the 4th grade had made an electromagnet that they could take home. It was a fun activity. Now I have about half a spool left for other fun projects when I need magnet/motor wire.
