It functions exactly as the standard remote, just with better connectivity.In other words, you still have to cycle through each button repeatedly to get your settings to change.The up and down button serves no purpose whatsoever, neither does what looks like a display, or the bottom button.It also has some kind of a sensor hole on the back, but I have no idea what it's for.Though it functions much better than the original remote, I think it's built rather cheaply.In my opinion, it should only cost $10 or less.Mine was sealed like it came from the factory, but the portion that looks like a display had some scuffing on the upper left corner that looked horrible.There was no protective plastic on it from the factory.I was able to polish it with some plastic polish, but should not have had to in the first place.I really wish somebody would make a better remote!The price for what it is, is ridiculous.I was expecting much more, but I guess I'll have to live with it, as my factory remote has been total garbage from the start.I'm only keeping it, because there is nothing else available.

Got this to replace a remote for a greentouch home electric fireplace from menards. It works well and arrived quickly.
