Fine tip marker or even pen work fine. Will smear if it's a wet ink so be careful. We added a little piece of tape at the bottom but will work without it.

The item is great and looks nice once set up but to keep it from popping open just needed a little bit of tape on the bottom where it connects. Otherwise it worked well for what I needed it for. Also have extras left in storage for next event.
