Don't bother buying these types of cables. I thought it was actually a usb to firewire adapter itself not something that is a usb to firewire passthru. USB devices do not recognize the firewire devices. at least for my sony digital 8 camcorder. Had to buy a real firewire adapter to connect my camera to.

It didn’t do the job. The usb could not handle the FireWire load.

Aside from the protocols being wildly unrelated and different, Firewire runs off 12 volts, and USB runs off 5 volts. This adapter is like chopping off the AC power plug from an appliance and soldering on a 12-volt car power port and expecting it to work.

This adapter worked perfectly to connect a 9-pin FireWire 800 drive to a computer which only had 6-pin FireWire 400 sockets. I imagine it would do the opposite without complaint, too.Both connectors fit solidly with others, and build quality is very high. The cable is thick, and proper IEEE-1394 stuff, according to the print on the jacket. Connector shrouds are overmolded plastic, and also feel great. The only complaint is some sprue on the 9-pin end, but that was easily taken care of with side cutters.While these sorts of adapters are becoming more and more a thing of the past, if you need it you need it. This one does its job perfectly, is made well, and isn't too expensive.

Pretty standard, good quality connector that's great for making connections between certain Firewire devices. In my case, I have a couple of old laptops with Firewire jacks and also a few Firewire external drives I've had (and been unable to access) for a long time. Finally now I can connect them and browse those old files and copy everything I need. Cable works great, no issues for me. Very pleased!
