What is 70 volt ?

70 volt systems are the choice for applications where you want to install many speakers. With 70 volt there are a lot of advantages over 8-ohm systems. One of the main advantages is the simplicity of the wiring as well as how easy it is to match up speakers with the amplifier. For example, you can buy one 70V amplifier with 350 watts and you can install speakers that total close to 300 watts. It does not matter if it is 15 speakers that are 20 watts each or 50 speakers that are tapped at 5 watts each. You always want your 70 volt amp to have at least 15 or 20% more power than the combined watts your speakers are tapped at.

When we say the word tap, what we are referring to are the selectors these speakers have on them. For example, these speakers have selectable options of 2.5w, 5w, 10w, 20w. What this does is limit how many watts the built-in transformer on the speaker will allow the speaker to get from the amplifier. This gives you full customization over the sound for your space. In a restaurant for example you can tap your dining room speakers at 5 watts, the speakers by the bar area at 20 watts, and the ones in the hallway at 2.5 watts.

Another great feature with 70 volt is you can mix and match any 70 volt speakers whether they are ceiling speakers, wall mounted speakers, subwoofers, etc.

70 volt systems allow you to run very long lines of speaker wire without signal loss. This is ideal when running long speaker leads.

The wiring is simple. You just wire all the positive terminals of the speakers to the positive 70 volt terminals of the amplifier. The negative terminals on the speaker simply get wired to the negative terminals on the amp. You do not have to worry about impedance. The power is constant.

You will not get any appreciable level from this subwoofer. In fact, when put it next to a single OSD AP520T outdoor speaker, you will barely notice any additional bass. Sending this one back. Given that it is almost impossible to find a 70V subwoofer, I assume there is a reason. Going to try a standard subwoofer and drive it using the 4-8 ohm output on my 70V amp.

I was going to return it but I tweaked my amplifier, put it in the corner near my wall, and turned it up. It's much better on the bass and treble. It's not real for a home theater system. Although I am in aptmante so it doesn't need to be super loud.

Not great sound quality is OK, and it is not very loud and cheep stuff as usual from Rockville. Think cheep IKEA, but for sound. 8 x 10 room it will be OK, anything bigger it wont work.

These subwoofers are easy to get up and going. I wall-mounted two of these in our work meeting space ( a rather large room without ceilings in a shop). The wall-mount hardware did not line up completely with the threaded serts on the back of the subwoofer so I had to slightly coax one of the brackets to fit. These add a much fuller sound to our speaker system, though they do chuff some when driven harder. It is not a deep bass, but enough to add some oomph to what would have been an anemic sound system. There was an issue with one of my subwoofers where there was a sound coming from the port akin to a whistle or vibration. I found that the plastic inserts in the ports are not very well insulated and air was passing AROUND the plastic port insert, causing the whistling. I gently pulled the port out and added a little caulking around it and re-inserted it. After everything dried, nothing was visible and the whistle was gone. Despite these issues, I would recommend these subwoofers if you are looking for fuller sound without wanting to have a thumping party.

Funciona con un subwoffer bajo pero profundo mejora el sonido del equipo. Creo que para mi instalación ocupo 2 más. El soporte es excelente. Y da un buen sonido
