It kept small critters away from our food. Loved that it held a lot ( 3 full gallon ziplocks with room to spare)! You really had to work to get into it so may not be a good choice if you have hand strength issues. Hanging point worked well, allowing easy access to contents. Not sure why it has bear in the advertising as this seems primarily for rodents, birds etc.

needed a way too keep my food safe from the critters at camp! Used this and had no problem! It’s very durable mesh wire to keep your food safe! Please note this is not a bear safe product!

I cant speak to its use for bears, but worked perfectly well for Havasupai Falls. Importantly we didn't have any noticeable critter issues, but hung in this bag from a tree, food was safely stored every night. It is on the heavy side if you plan to use it backpacking. Honestly a bear cannister is lighter weight and more tamper proof if you are concerned about weight.

I took this out to an area in Texas that doesn't have bears, but does have racoons. In the middle of the night a racoon decided to feast on my food, except it couldn't get into the rat sack. It tried so hard, it actually swung from the bag! I had to get up, tie a new line bt 2 trees and hang the bag in the middle before it left the bag alone. The bag is sturdy, there are no holes and kept my food safe. You can tell where the racoon tried to get into the bag. I fear that it may not hold up if another racoon is just as determined. There are 2 places that look stretched out and one of those 2 spots the loop is larger then the rest.Overall I'm satisfied with the product, it did what it was supposed to do.

I'm impressed with how tough this thing is, and I totally see why it has to be. I've never backpacked through a rodent-lousy area before, and I have high hopes that this thing will do the job. The sack itself is very tough, and the Velcro is strong as heck. Grand Canyon, here I come!

This bag was just the right size and held all my food for 8 days. I put it all in an odor-proof plastic bag and hung it. No worries about critters and a lot lighter than a bear canister. I stored it in the plastic it came in for the hike in so it would not chafe against anything else in the backpack and cause damage. Great by for anywhere that does not require a canister.

Not for me. I hated the texture and bulkiness. It was so hard to open and close, too! Had to return. Ursack for me!

Recently had a good test for this bag at a Tasmanian campsite with a problem possum population known for ripping into bags and tents to get to food. I hung my food and toiletries in the Ratsack inside a thin nylon dry bag. In the morning it was clear the possums had tried hard to access the food as the dry bag had multiple holes bitten/clawed through it. The Ratsack however held firm and all the contents were untouched. Recommend.

Before buying this product, I have had my food eaten by rodents (likely squirrels since I hang my pack) at least 5 times. Once I had to end a trip a day early because a rodent chewed into everything I had. I started losing sleep on trips because I was worrying about things eating my food while I slept. I bought this for a 7 day trek with no road access in Northern Ontario and have taken it on ever trip since and never had any more rodent issues. Carrying a 1 pound metal sack around feels stupid when hiking but I sleep so much better knowing my food is rodent-proof and it is so worth it for me. Eating less food because a squirrel got into your bag slows you down more than a little bag does. Yes, they are very expensive for what they are but they are so worth it. I even bought another after I misplaced mine on my last trip and both of my brothers bought one as well after one of them lost some food to a squirrel while mine stayed safe

I probably should have got a smaller sized sack, but this has worked great for me. Very noisy when opening, so you'll annoy your campsite neighbours at night if you need to get into it too many times. I got it for bike touring, and I was able to stuff a few dry sacks or even my bike cooler bag into it with more than enough room. As long as you hang this right your food will be safe - it won't stop a bear but raccoons and squirrels won't get in.

Haven't used it yet, but seems strong, I will be pairing this with odor proof bags. The Velcro is actually hard to open so it seems very good for the price. I will have or update this review once has been used.
