Simply press the switch for muting (or talking) and release to hear the signal again (or to mute). The MM11 has a large actuator switch which may be used by hand, or on the floor with your foot.

Absolutely, a great product by ROLLS. It is user selectable (easy external access) to function as either a Press to Mute or Press to Talk. I received mine factory set to Press to Talk. I especially like the switch's surface since it can be comfortably operated by hand if it is used as a table mount or by foot (bare feet friendly) if its on the ground. It is suitable for both dynamic and condenser microphones. Depending on the instance/timing of pressing the switch, if it is pressed in the middle of a word/phrase, the switching may generate a slight noise. However, for the purposes of muting for a cough or a sneeze and activating the switch during a silent moment, there is no an issue at all. It is very sturdy built, and best of all it is "Made In USA"! Highly recommended.

This is a solid little unit, seems quite strong, with a big switch you can't miss. I often have a cough from allergies and this foot operated kill switch works like a charm. My Shure Beta 57A is normally used for instruments, but I found it worked great for my voice and with being as sensitive as it is, this kill switch is a godsend. You have to keep your foot down for it to work. You can set it the other way too, keeping your foot on it to sing.

I record a weekly podcast. Two, in fact. I am also the editor. This little box has made my life ten times easier. I have one, as does my associate. Before, we would be coughing and sputtering and clearing our throats, all of which was rendered immortal into our DAWs. I would then have to go through with a fine-toothed comb and hunt down all the nasty little noises, because nobody wants to hear that. Now, we can do all that to our hearts' content, knowing that none of it will reach our recording. The construction of this box is quite sturdy, and I feel comfortable setting it on the ground and using my foot to activate it. Of note is that it only works when it's being pushed; this is not a problem fir me, but if you're looking something more like a switch, this isn't it. However, it's a great product and I'm thrilled to have it.

Item completely as described - an excellent push-to-mute or push-to-talk XLR foot pedal. It works great, seems robust. The switch to go between PTT and PTM modes is recessed, and you can't get at it with your finger. It takes a little tool of some sort (I used a bic pen). If you could reach the switch with your finger, this would be better. Obviously, this is not a serious defect (but I had to say something).

The price may seem high, but given the laws of supply and demand (how many PTT switches are out there?) and the rugged construction (0.1" in thick steel chassis), it's a good value. It appears to built with heavy stage use in mind. For condenser mics, if the MM11-PRO is wired behind the mic's phantom power, the delays and cutoffs of repeatedly powering the mic up and down are avoided. If you're accustomed to powering your mic from the board, you would need a stand-alone phantom power unit to insert between the mic and the Rolls switch:(Microphone --> Phantom Power --> Rolls PTT --> Board). The unit features a recessed switch in the side for toggling between Push-to-talk and Mute modes. I use the PTT mode exclusively. To use the PTT mode effectively, one must acquire the habit of pushing the button half a heartbeat before speaking to avoid audio clipping. Always operate the switch facing you (so that "Rolls" appears upright) to ensure full and consistent activation.

Used for 1 show so far. Worked as it should. Seems like a solid build.

I have a home studio (which doubles as a gaming room occasionally). This gives me a pretty comfortable option to be able to free up my hands and talk back to music clients or gaming friends.Deducted 1 star because pedal is a little uncomfortable to press down.

A very solid build with this switch, which indicates it should last many years. It's made in the USA and not China, which might explain its one weakness, price. Other than price it works 100%.

I was a bit nervous about this product as I purchased it before noting a review where one owner reported an audible click when using the switch to cut the mic in and out. I've now owned mine for approximately a month and have used it successfully with the following Behringer, Shure, Blue Yeti, and Heil microphones. All of my cabling is shielded XLR - not cheap stuff, either. The latter two require 48V Phantom power. The ROLLS MicMute has performed flawlessly. I've not once encountered an audible click when using this unit set to PTT (my default) or PTM (just for testing). The construction is excellent and my teen daughter has already performed several bounce tests of the unit as she is rather brain dead early in the morning. (Argh.) The unit bounced off a cement driveway rather nicely, although that test wasn't planned in advance.Very pleased with this purchase and am budgeting for two more after X-mas if the missus doesn't take the hint and get them for me as prezzies instead. These are worth owning.Update: Oct 24, 2015 -- Just ordered a second unit. We often podcast as a team and need two of these when doing sports commentary.

If you are a podcaster, announcer, make YouTube videos, are in a studio, or do anything where you talk in a mic and hate editing out after the fact this thing is AMAZING. When recording a drum tutorial I can not set a gate on the vocal mic that will block a rim shot yet still capture my voice. The push to talk on here solves all my problems. It also does push to mute if you are an announcer or podcaster and are about to sneeze, or say something off the air.It is quiet, clean sounding, and works 100%.I enjoy helping consumers make informed decisions. Thank you very much for the 'Yes' helpful vote, and please feel free to comment or ask questions related to this product or other items I have reviewed on Amazon.

This takes away any fumbling with on off switch on your microphone . Great addition to any PA announcers set up
