This chafing dish exceeded my expectations for quality, appearance, and performance. I really like the way it looks on my table--and the glass lid provides a helpful view of what's inside. The side of the dish features a sturdy lid holder so no one has to hold the lid when getting food. The dish is quite large--about 16" in diameter and is the perfect size a wide variety of hot and cold dishes. Its stylish design features two stainless steel bowls, one smaller than the other.For hot foods, just fill the larger bowl with water, place the smaller bowl on top, and then add your foods. It's great for sides like mashed potatoes or stuffing, as well as for entrees like chicken, macaroni and cheese, sloppy joes. It's also perfect for scrambled eggs for a breakfast/brunch buffet. There's a spot for your sterno to keep your food hot and tasty.For cold foods, you can fill the larger bowl with a layer of ice (crushed ice works especially well because space is limited). My ice lasted for about two hours--you could easily empty and add more ice at any time. You can then fill the smaller bowl with such cold foods as fruit, vegetable, and pasta salads or puddings or other cold desserts. I like the idea of using this bowl to keep sliced sandwich meats cool and safe--they often sit out for a long period at room temperature.You will have to assemble this dish, but the directions are fairly straightforward (see my photo). It didn't take me long at all. The only thing that would make this dish better for me would be if it came with a matching serving spoon, fork, and tongs. Other than that, I love it!!!
