I bought these as teaching aids to help my kids learn about different animals around the world. Concepts are so much easier for them to grasp if they can hold and play with the animals they're leaning about, rather than just reading about them in a book. The animals are well crafted, the pieces have been nicely painted and they're fairly detailed which helps them look more realistic - the snake has scales, the birds have feathers, and the armadillo has plates of armor. They also have their names on the underside in case you need help identifying what they are. Most of the pieces in this set stand up on their own fairly well, although some are a little wobbly.The only thing I find a little cumbersome is the tube itself. While it's great for storing, it's compact size and odd shape makes it difficult to get the animals in and out - the rope handle also seems to get in the way. Other than the somewhat troublesome tube, the animals in this set are great and I will definitely be buying more of these collections.

We've purchased several of these TOOBs both online and at local museum gift shops, etc... The toys are nice, not quite as nice as the Schleich figures but still good quality. We used this desert set for our kindergartner's diorama project. The only reason I give it a star-deduction is that the scale of the animals is a little off. This is good if you want to limit the swallow-risk, yet unrealistic enough that we didn't want to include the scorpion in the display (honestly, kiddo didn't care). Six-foot-long scorpions and four-foot-tall prairie dogs are fun to play with so I still recommend all of the TOOB toy sets.

We used these for an ecosystem and used kinetic sand as the base. It turned out wonderful!

My children love playing with all these "Toobs" (we own several). I like to purchase them as a hands-on educational toy relating to various topics we are studying in Social Studies or Science. The tiny models are very high-quality, realistic, well-made, and nicely painted. The name of the animal is printed on the underside of each model. They store nicely in a clear plastic tube with a cool spinning globe on the lid, and a string for carrying. The plastic tube will break or crush easily if stepped on.

The Toob I received was not like the one shown. It had an orange top, instead of the blue globe on top. Instead of 12 "hand painted" items the Toob only had 11 and on the sticker on the Toob, also said 11, not 12 items were included, as the description. The hand painting on my animals are sad. There is no variation of colors like the ones shown here. for example, my coyote is one color...a sad sand color (just like the praire dog, horned toad and big ram). Not Great.
