there should be a lock on the threads of the handle. a counter clockwise twist can loosen the connection.

I keep this in the SUV for when we go camping so we have some tools for emergency use while camping or off roading. It's never a bad idea to have a way to dig in or out of a situation or to be able to process some firewood and start a fire. This has a good amount of useful gear. The gear is well made and sturdy. It packs away well and is easy to store when not needed. It's got a hatchet, shovel, knife, spear tip, multi-tool, flashlight, paracord, glass breaker, compass that actually points north, and even a sharpening stone.Very useful stuff when you need it.

This Sahara Sailor Survival Tool Kit comes with a LOT of tools, carefully arranged into a surprisingly small carrying case.PROS:- There is a single handle that can be used with several of the tools, including the shovel, axe, knife, spear, and screwdriver bit.- The handle part are hollow, threaded, metal pieces that are easily screwed together. You can choose how many of the pieces to use, to make a short (16.5") or long (38") handle.- The tools use "aviation-grade aluminum" and "high hardness carbon steel," which are corrosion-resistant.- Other tools included are a pocket knife, paracord, USB-chargeable flashlight, compass, whistle, flint, whetstone, and a multi-tool with pliers, files, bottle opener, knife, and saw.- The axe and shovel heads each come in a thick, nylon, snap-on pouch for safety.CONS:- The shovel head can be angled and used as a shovel, saw, hoe, or hook. It is easy to change the angle, but I don't feel that this mechanism to hold the shovel head in place is particular secure.Overall, this is a delightful, portable survival tool kit, great for casual use.

I've seen and used similar tools to these before. They were all hyped up to be the very best and most versatile tools on the market. Literally hundreds of clones have come and gone and each one worst than the last. Cheap Chinese garbage for gadget collectors that have no idea (or business) being out in the great outdoors.This kit really surprised me. I was expecting the same old sheet metal and 440 stainless garbage. This is not it. Yes, I do believe that the blades are 440 stainless, but they appear to be of a higher grade. I was able to test all of these tools on my property ranging from hacking at pine trees to cutting through my corrugated steel trash can.Overall, the tools and blades worked great. I even dig the flashlight! It's very bright and the charge lasts for quite awhile. I'd definitely order this again!

When I served in the US Army all combat/tactical vehicles were equipped with a Pioneer Tool Kit. Some were as simple as an axe and shovel, others included pick axes and pry bars. It was an essential part of our range of tools.The Sahara Sailor Folding Camping Shovel Axe Kit is spectacular with the additional tools that are included. One item that should be kept in the vehicle for ready use is the knife. Reason is, on one end of the knife is a seat-belt cutter and the other end is a metal tip that can be used to break a side glass vehicle window. We keep one of these tools in each of our vehicle in a cloth bag affixed to the parking brake handles. Light weight, a perfect add to your vehicle when camping or bugging out.All the components seem robust and capable of offering years of use. For storage and weight reasons, the shovel and axe are not the same size as we had in our vehicle's Pioneer Kit, but is the shovel is same size as the entrenching tool carried by the individual soldier, and that was more than adequate for its intended use. This prize comes with everything contained in a handled carrier.I see this being on the gifting list for our children's vehicles

Has everything someone would possibly need on a camping trip or in an emergency situation. My son-in-law is really going to like this. My only complaint is that the case is cheap and one of the snaps to keep it shut was broken on arrival.
