I ordered this for my husband who is fanatical about taking good care of our yard. I constantly see him wheeling his little cart in front of him either spreading seed, bug treatments or fertilizer. I have had to do it for him and I hate doing it. I am not a fan of the cart.Right out of the box this was super easy to figure out and use. We had a Makita battery so it worked perfectly with our battery -- and just pop it in. Then I tried different settings on the top nob - from 0 to 5. 0 put out just a little bit of fertilizer and wow did 5 put out a whole lot. Then on the front is a dial that you can either close off or open it to control how broad you want to apply. I put the knob to halfway and I was able to control the flow of the fertilizer to one particular section of grass that really needed -- instead of just making a big semi-circle of fertilizer.Towards the end of my fertilizer I had to shake it to get all the fertilizer to the bottom -- just like you have to do with the cart -- so no big deal there. This is very, very lightweight -- so lightweight that for me I just filled it up and easily walked around the yard. It doesn't hold as much as his cart but it is a whole lot easier to use and control. In parts of our backyard where the cart would not like it so much -- this will work perfectly too. Now I don't mind helping him with these tasks.
