I've had a difficult time finding the right device for hunting for gems and seashells because most of them will not hold up to digging into a stream bed or scooping up sand and water. The Comincia Sand Scoop with Long Handle is heavy duty and well-made and it will lift most anything that will fit into the scoop, The long handle allows for a substantial extension of my reach enabling me to reach under creek banks or boulders many of which I really don't want to reach under with my bare hand anyway. Most excellent device that I highly recommend. Have fun!!

First thing I did when I opened the box was compare it to the thinner (but more expensive) scoop I was using. I don't have to worry about this one under foot. It is thick, welded, and well made.I've never owned one of the more expensive brands because I'm too cheap to put out $100 plus for a scoop. I'm very impressed! Great value!I'll update later if there are any issues but I don't believe there will be any.

I just got it a couple of days ageo and had sent to the beach resort I'm staying aewst to help me with metal detecting and shell searching at the beach. It arrived when promised. Although I haven't tried it out yet the basket looks really sturdy as well as the handle. My big problem is the handle is three pieces that screw together unfortunately in my case the handle doesn't stay screwed together this only the three star rating.

I liked everything about the product. Now I don’t have to bend over every time I want to scoop something up when I am using my metal detector. There’s nothing that I don’t like about it. It seems to be well made and I am very excited to get to use it.

I was really looking for a long handled scoop for digging along the edge of the beach for shells.This item looked to be good for that purpose, but the angle of the handle to the scoop is reverse of what I needed. It did do a good job of letting the sand fall away while capturing the shells.Pros;The chrome finish looks to hold up well and is easily cleaned with a garden hose.The handle comes in three pieces and screws together nicely ( it never loosened while using it) and came apart easily making storage much easier.The handle slides into the scoop with a spring loaded retainer button that securely holds it together.Cons:The foam grip at the top of the handle is not very robust and became all but useless very quickly.The way the handle attaches to the scoop only allows the handle to slant away from the scoop so you always have to push forward to dig, a very slight modification by the manufacturer would allow you to attach the handle in either direction which would allow you to pull the scoop towards you which is easier and in some cases very beneficial (MANUFACTURER, LISTEN TO THIS) having that option would be good.The unit is a little bit heavy but I am not young (66).All in all if you are metal detecting its probably fine I just bought it for scooping shells. It would work much better for that with a slight modification.
