The stock method of mounting is not up to the task of clamping the box to the frame when larger tires, locking differentials and tough trails are mixed. Reinforce the steering box mount on your Jeep with this super strong, easy to install Steering Box Brace. If you have installed tires any larger then stock, this is a must have item. The best insurance you can install to help prevent the box from being torn off the frame. Made from 1” O.D.x.120w steel tubing, powder coated gray. Installed on 2000 Jeep XJ when I replaced the steering gear box. This brace really tightened up the front end. Install was straightforward, and instructions were nice and clear. I did pick up and do suggest an extra large washer for the inner side of the big bolt/nut combo, otherwise all hardware was there. I docked a star because of the included lock nuts. They are a BEAR!! Using a standard 7" ratchet and open end wrench I could use some grunt and get the smaller nuts to tighten down, but I had to break out the 24" long 1/2" drive bar to tighten up the large bolt/nut. Air tools would make short work of them but I didn't have access at the time. The large spacer also did not sit quite right in the frame hole, which kept the brace from sitting flush on the rail. Loosening it was TOUGH, and I thought the bolt would snap trying to loosen the horrible lock nuts!!! It really was that bad. I got it aligned properly and it is nice and tight now, but watch carefully when installing - those nuts do NOT like to come back off. Overall a very nice, quality part. Fit was fit right on, powder coating was top notch, and they threw in a sticker. Stickers are cool.

The bar is a full inch TOO LONG ,NOT EVEN CLOSE TO FITTING

Brace shaft was too long to allow mounting hardware to secure correctly. I had to use an angle grinder to grind it down and notch it to allow adequate space to mount. Seemed like a lot more trouble than what it was worth to install.

Installed in like 5 minutes and made a world of difference steering on the freeway.
