I drive horse carriages, and one of the recommended hardware options for hooking a horse up to a carriage is a set of snap shackles. The area they are used is pretty much the most important spot in the whole setup, as the horse’s thrust will pull against that spot every stride it takes, especially the initial thrust to get moving or when pulling up an incline.This safety snap shackle is very small, but a solid piece of construction. The closed loop fits the large carabiners fine, allowing it to connect directly to my doubletree. The latching mechanism is smooth and strong, easy to close one handed. The nice leather pulls are lightweight (no accidental triggering) and sturdy. The 1000k operating strength gives confidence of a full sized horse pressing on the components. I’ve had a carriage accident where a shaft broke, and these would have been amazing to have had for a faster disconnect of my traces. Thankfully my horse was a saint.I imagine these will suit a wide variety of tasks where you also need something super secure but also undone in a split second. Nice product!

The finish and function on this shackle is top notch. Everything is smooth and well polished, and it functions smoothly. It is purposefully designed to keep an air mask or something else you need quick access to at hand, and the item would be best to have a line or hose attached. Using this for your keys for example might not be wise.The leather loop that is attached just seems lightweight compared to the rest of the device. There’s also a key ring type connector that attaches to the leather loop. It’s substantial enough, but the pin it goes through is drilled so small that only one spot on the ring will pass through. Bottom line, after use you may want to swap out the leather loop but you may need to stick with the key ring component.

As a sailboat captain, I am familiar with snap shackles which can stay closed under heavy load, yet can be quickly released under load by pulling on the release pin. My application is for a lanyard on my safety harness used to attach myself to the boat during heavy weather. As important as it may be to stay attached to the vessel during foul weather, there can be emergency situations where you need to release the lanyard from the attachment point under heavy load. For example, if I fall overboard and am being dragged in the water, I need to be able to release the lanyard to get clear of the boat. The leather strap on this shackle's release pin provides a sure way to pull the release pin even while wearing heavy gloves. Constructed with marine-grade 316 stainless steel ensures that it won't corrode from exposure to salty sea water. This appears to be good solid gear for critical safety needs.

This shackle is great for attaching my SCBA mask to my bunker coat or to the SCBA pack. In the past, I've used a carabiner to clip on my mask; now I use this quick release shackle. It is a game changer.When I'm attaching the mask to my gear, the shackle shuts over the pin easily and without needing to pull on the leather strap. When I'm ready to don the mask, a quick tug on the leather strap opens the shackle. This is easy to do even with gloved hands.I wish I bought a shackle like this sooner. I'm recommending it to all my brothers and sisters in the fire service.

I'm super happy with this device.Pros: - Solid metal construction feels like it will last. I'm sure it will take a beating on my turn out gear, so I want something that isn't going to snap easy. - Can handle a substantial amount of weight without binding. I pulled pretty hard on it and could still activate the quick release. - Nice long leather pull for gloved hands.Cons: - There's a slight bit of back and forth wobble to it. I'm nervous this could eventually turn into it not lining up right when snapping, but so far it's okay.Great quick release for your mask, highly recommend it.
