Product Description

The main function of a vehicle’s knock sensor is to sense for vibrations that are caused by the detonation or knock of the engine. You will find the knock sensor on the intake manifold, the cylinder head or the engine block. Once there are vibrations sensed, the powertrain control module receives a voltage signal and uses it to change the time of the ignition and stop it from detonating. By doing this, the engine will be protected from being damaged during pre-ignition. So if the knock sensor fails then this detonation cannot be regulated and will result in huge damage to your engine. That is why it is important to recognize what the symptoms are of a failing knock sensor.

The symptoms of a bad knock sensor:

The symptoms of a bad knock sensor usually show up while accelerating or under a load. Be clear that this sensor affects the ignition timing of an engine. The vehicle will have a loss in fuel mileage and acceleration especially at highway speeds. The customer may complain that the vehicle's engine doesn't feel right.

1. Vibration, especially at highway speed

2. Thumping or knocking noise from the engine

3. Poor fuel economy and acceleration

4. A failed knock sensor will register a trouble code and illuminate the Check Engine lamp (CEL)

How to Repair/Replace the Knock Sensor?

• Remove the Engine from the vehicle, Remove the intake manifold and throttle body assembly

• Locate the knock sensor on your vehicle by going through the service manual

• Remove the electrical connector from the sensor and Remove the bolts and screws that hold the sensor on the block

• Pull out the old sensor once it is unmounted and Match the old sensor with the new one

• Install the new sensor at the proper location and Tighten back again to as much as 29 ft. lbs

The knock sensor on the vehicle I have went out and it was rated at near $1,000 dollars to replace the factory unit because it's under the intake manifold. I found this that meets the needs for a "relocation" of the knock sensor. I put it in according to the instructions I found on a vehicle repair site and my Check Engine light we off the second time I drove it. I have no further issues with the knock sensor!!!

The connector does not match the one on the car. I ended up reusing the connector from the old knock sensor. The cable for all of the after market sensors must be made by the same company. This complaint is common to many of the knock sensors on amazon. I used it in my 2000 altima and it is the same sensor as a 2000 CRV. The sensor itself works fine.
