Product Description

The main function of a vehicle’s knock sensor is to sense for vibrations that are caused by the detonation or knock of the engine. You will find the knock sensor on the intake manifold, the cylinder head or the engine block. Once there are vibrations sensed, the powertrain control module receives a voltage signal and uses it to change the time of the ignition and stop it from detonating. By doing this, the engine will be protected from being damaged during pre-ignition. So if the knock sensor fails then this detonation cannot be regulated and will result in huge damage to your engine. That is why it is important to recognize what the symptoms are of a failing knock sensor.

The symptoms of a bad knock sensor:

The symptoms of a bad knock sensor usually show up while accelerating or under a load. Be clear that this sensor affects the ignition timing of an engine. The vehicle will have a loss in fuel mileage and acceleration especially at highway speeds. The customer may complain that the vehicle's engine doesn't feel right.

1. Vibration, especially at highway speed

2. Thumping or knocking noise from the engine

3. Poor fuel economy and acceleration

4. A failed knock sensor will register a trouble code and illuminate the Check Engine lamp (CEL)

I had to remove the manifold to change the starter because of a compact engine bay anyway I moved the connection wires to the starter and they were connected to the wire of the nock sensor I barely pulled the wires out of the way to get to the starter bolt and it broke like a Pringles chip so I ordered this one to replace it with I was screwing it in to the block and I took the socket off, the plain weight of the socket broke the second sensor and now I'm ordering it for the second time and it sucks how this is the only one you can find on Amazon pretty much, conclusively be extremely careful and gentle when installing.

Update: almost a year in, still working. No problems!!! 8-20-21Bought this for my 09 Honda Civic Si. We accidentally broke it when I was having starter issues, (hitting the starter to get it to crank until I replaced it. It be like that sometimes...) anyways, compared to paying $80+ at the parts store, I decided to go with this one as opposed to the others because of the one written review. All others were just star ratings. So ty first person! I’m only 1 week in, if I have any issues I will update. Other than that can’t complain!!!

Works on 2010 civic si. Exact replacement part. I don't really trust it's coating so I added lubrication to the threads for the future replacement if necessary. I could replace this part 10 times before the oem price becomes cheaper. Im not sure if I would use this on a track car since It may be innacurate at detecting actual knock which can either cause damage or loose out on ignition timing but won't be a problem for normal driving. If you have large hands your screwed when it comes to installing it.
