Start the spring season off right with Scotts® Turf Builder® Halts® Crabgrass Preventer with Lawn Food. This pre-emergent weed killer plus fertilizer stops crabgrass before it invades and protects all season long. It also prevents other listed grassy and broadleaf weeds, including barnyard grass, foxtail, poa annua, chickweed, and oxalis. The added fertilizer feeds for a fast green-up after winter and helps build strong, deep grass roots. Apply Scotts® Turf Builder® Halts® Crabgrass Preventer with Lawn Food in early spring (prior to 3rd or 4th mowing) when your lawn is dry and before temperatures are regularly in the 80s. For best results, the lawn should receive ¼ to ½ inch of water from rainfall or watering within 2-3 days after application. We recommend using a Scotts® spreader to apply this product. For Scotts® broadcast/rotary spreaders, use a setting of 3. For Scotts® drop spreaders, use a setting of 6. Do NOT apply to Dichondra and Bentgrass. This product controls crabgrass in its early stages of growth. It does not control mature crabgrass and other existing weeds. One 13.35 lb. bag of Scotts® Turf Builder® Halts® Crabgrass Preventer with Lawn Food covers 5,000 sq. ft.

When spring rolls around, it’s time to get my lawn looking good again. I picked up a new lawn food this year, hoping it would help me beat the crabgrass and make my grass green and thick. Before Use: After winter, my lawn wasn’t looking great—it was yellow and patchy. And I knew crabgrass was just waiting to pop up.After Use: I’m really happy with the lawn food I tried. It stopped the crabgrass from coming up and in just a few weeks, my lawn looked way better. It got really green and filled in. Even with the weather changing a lot, the lawn food worked great. To wrap it up, this lawn food is a big win for taking care of my lawn in the spring. It’s not just about stopping weeds—it’s made my lawn look alive again. I’m going to keep using it to make sure my lawn stays looking nice. If you need something good for your lawn, I’d say give this stuff a try. It worked out well for me!

This is a great product. I live in a rural area and crabgrass is everywhere. Provided I put this down early, before say 55-60 degree days it works great. If you wait too long, 65-70 degree days, it is less effective in my opinion. After the early spring application I usually follow-up with Ortho liquid crabgrass control on a spot treatment basis. The liquid treatments start in July.

Overall, Scotts Turf Builder Halts Crabgrass Preventer with Lawn Fertilizer is an excellent product for both weed prevention and lawn nourishment. If you're looking for an easy-to-use, dual-purpose solution for a greener and healthier lawn, this is the way to go.

I use a variety of Scotts lawn fertilizers throughout the year, and this is the one I use in March and April. (I live in a sunny part of northern California)Not that many years ago my lawns were being overtaken by crabgrass, but a friend recommended I try this fertilizer in the early spring. To my surprise, the first year I had very little crabgrass in either lawn (and I pulled whatever came up), the second year much less, and for the last 8-10 years I've had no crabgrass at all, just thick green weed-free lawn. So, I still use it every spring just to make sure it doesn't come back.I highly recommend this fertilizer for use in the early spring whether you have crabgrass or not.

Within a week my lawn turned so green that the neighbors thought I had spray painted the grass. It takes a little longer for the crabgrass to disappear but it seems like it is working. This is a wonderful product and I will continue to use it on a regular basis to keep my lawn looking beautiful

Applied right before it rained, good fertilizer, does good with crabgrass and clover but not chickweed. It did kill some chickweed but not all. I had to apply two coats on the chickweed and still did not take care of it all. I had to buy another product for the chickweed and other weeds as well. I will not buy this one again most likely. But if you want a fertilizer and to halt crabgrass it will be good for that.

Didn't follow the directions one year and applied too much in some places. Had to live with the bare spots until the new seed I planted took off the following year. Since that disaster I apply Halts according to directions and never had an issue. Don't know how Amazon can ship a heavy item to your door for around the same price you can buy it at the store, but glad they can.Update: Can't remember how long ago it was. But when I was a few decades younger, you could buy a 15,000 sq ft bag for around $35. Seems like the weight of the package was at least 45lbs, maybe 50. Now you get 40lbs, and it costs you almost 3 times more! I'll keep using it though. I've used generic pre-emergent's in the past, but nothing compares to how well "all" Scott's products work.Update: Want to mention again that you can buy this same stuff for similar cost + or - a couple of bucks as big box stores, and it's delivered to your front door! Early March is when I apply it. It's in the garage now waiting; waiting for me to get my ambition up to push the spreader when it's time.
