The Seagull IV is excellent. Small, easy to install and the filter lasts for over a year. It's pricey but worth every penny. This is our second purchase. The first purchase was in our previous home and was a popular selling point when we sold our house. When we moved to our current home this water filter was enormously missed so we bought it again. It's hard to live without it. The water is pure and delicious, easy to fill containers from the mini faucet that comes with it and looks great on our sink.....we absolutely love it and I trust it.

I first discovered the Seagull line a decade ago when equipping a boat, have since had units in two houses as well, just ordering my fourth. I once bought a Sears unit - just a carbon block type - but the snap-on plastic hose connections scared me and I gave it away. The Seagull unit is physically solid, well engineered and the connection hoses and fittings won a compliment from my plumber. The water is delicious even in the summer when we sometimes have musty smells/tastes from algae and vegetation in the lake. Water makes great coffee and is still good when I change the filter unit a year later. More than a filter - read the specs - and probably overkill for a house with municipal water, but still much cheaper than bottled water.

It does NOT eliminate tank taste. Bought this because of small 'footprint' compared to other purifiers even though it had a MUCH higher price tag. Now after cutting water hose, installing and drilling a 3/4 inch hole in my counter top, it is useless. Water tastes just as nasty as it does coming straight from the tap. It was easy to install and would be perfect if it worked!

I bought this to go under my sink! It came as described. I had it installed by one of my friend and it was quick! Water tastes good. Great product!

My brother-in-law started me on the Seagull water purified in New York. When I moved to Florida I had a Seagull in my condo. I bought a new house and my contractor installed a GE purified and when I tasted the water it was terrible! So I bought Seagull and I am very, very happy with the taste of this water. It has no taste or smell of any chemicals that the GE purifier had.It was the best bang for my buck!

Gillette invented what's commonly called the "razor and blades" business model. Simply put, you essentially give the razor away and make your money selling blades, which your customers need to buy forever. Clearly, no one at Seagull has ever heard of this, since they overcharge customers for both. At over one hundred dollars a pop, plus shipping, they are surely making a very nice profit on their replacement filter cartridges--their "blades," if you will--but that's not the focus of my price complaint here. The truly insane overpricing is for the installation kit you must buy--"the razor"--for almost six hundred dollars. What do you get for all that money? A filter cartridge, which is worth about a hundred bucks. And some plumbing parts which, if I'm being really generous, might be worth about fifty dollars at retail. There's a metal canister to hold the filter cartridge. A mounting bracket to hold/mount that canister under your sink. A couple of short pieces of flexible plumbing hoses. And a small, very modest quality faucet that mounts in the same sink hole where a spray hose or soap dispenser might usually go. That's what you get for the other five hundred dollars of the purchase price.I have no complaints about the filter's performance. I live in NYC, which is actually known for having some of the cleanest, best-tasting drinking water in the country, and I seriously doubted if any filter could improve much upon it. So I had a friend give me a blind-tasting of water from the tap vs. water from the filter, and I could tell the difference immediately: the filtered water tasted AND smelled that much better than the tap water. And when I opened my eyes, it looked better, too--it just had added clarity. Plus, it filters quickly and maintains great water pressure.Honestly, as expensive as they are, I could live with the price of filter cartridges that last for a thousand gallons. But the installation kit is so ridiculously overpriced, you just feel ripped off when you get it.To sum up: you get four to five star filter performance at a one star price. I seriously considered a final rating of two stars before settling on three, so this is more of a 2.5 star review. Thanks for taking the time to read my review, and I hope you find it helpful in making a buying decision.
