These will still need a bit of abrasion to sprout, but are good looking seeds.

We ordered the seeds after learning that luffa (loofah) sponges are actually grown in the garden, not harvested from the ocean as we'd thought. And, we wanted to grow the very best plants using organic/heirloom seeds. We compared several brands and reviews and bought these. Then, I asked friends about growing them, and lots of friends had tried similar seeds with great results. As holiday gifts, I created a hand-drawn page, explaining how to grow them. And, I attached a few seeds to each page, in tiny, handmade packets. The gifts were a huge success, and nearly everyone - including me - has been growing these seeds. They sprout slowly, so have patience. (They're not like alfalfa sprouts, popping up overnight. They're more like tomato seeds, taking several days.)I think this is one of the coolest ideas, ever. We've always enjoyed the invigorating, healthy scrub of a loofah sponge in the shower. My best advice is to plant the seeds in a tub of soil, and use either poles or a trellis to support the vines once they start growing. (We're growing ours on a second-floor balcony.) And don't rush to harvest them. Several people have posted videos showing how "past their prime" the gourds should be, before you try peeling them to get the best loofah sponges. When we want more seeds (or give more as gifts), we'll buy this brand again. Among the many sellers, they seemed to have the best reputation. Also, the germination rate (how many actually sprout) was the best we've seen among the many plants we grow in containers. Recommended!

I’m going to start with: these did not provide any gourds for me, but it was MOST LIKELY user error.I planted these in large pots next to a trellis for climbing. They germinated right away and found the place they were supposed to climb. We had higher-than-reported germination of seeds, so I was very happy. The runners did a beautiful takeover of one part of my back porch. We had a large number of blooms, but no fruit. We had some mild-mid-range drought this summer. I am certain that at some times my plants were underwatered, and at other times they were overwatered. Loofah should be a little resistant to those things, but mine wasn’t. I wasn’t the best plant mom, so my crop (or lack of) shows.

I usually plant a different brand, and wish I would've just stuck with what I know. These germinate pretty quickly, and the vines are fantastic. However, I've only had 2 female flowers this year, and neither of which turned into a luffa. If you want something to cover a trellis or something, these are great. If you're hoping to harvest numerous luffas, go with a different brand. I gave 3 stars because of the vines growth, and one seeding actually survived a frost.
