We homeschool and while I’ve taught my son a little about hand sewing such as sewing a hem, sewing buttons and general mending, he wanted to learn how to sew on a machine. I learned a bit myself when I younger by my grandmother and had a machine once upon a time but it’s been around 20 years since I’ve touched one. I jumped on getting this little machine when I saw it. Needless to say I’m quite impressed with it.Together we went over the included booklet which helped some but I also found a super helpful video that showed close-up step by step instructions on set up and general usage and we got straight to trying this out.The machine itself came per-threaded with bobbin and all ready to go. There was also a tester piece of material already in place under the foot with some stitches done so we took turns doing some stitching on that as well. We opted to use the foot peddle rather than the manual sewing option (which requires 4 AA batteries) and this worked perfectly trying many different stitches plus the reverse stitch. The foot peddle is quite small so we found not having shoes on worked best for us when using it.I wanted my son to practice threading this and inserting the bobbin so we took out all the thread and the bobbin and he set this back up. This has arrows guiding the threading process which is nice and I taught my son to make sure the bobbin has the thread facing so that the tail makes the letter “P” when inserting it into the machine. (Thanks Grandma! I remembered this from her- that the bobbin needs to make the letter “P” when inserting it for “pretty stitches.”) 🥰 I then got some scrap fabric and away my son went stitching away. I can tell this doesn’t come with the greatest quality thread but so far it’s been working fine enough. I’ve ordered some nicer thread and extra bobbins for him because I can tell this is going to be his passion for a bit! *NOTE* Make sure to get metal bobbins and not plastic kind. This needs the metal ones for the magnetic holder inside to properly tense the bobbin thread correctly. This comes with extras however I wanted even more on hand as I can tell we’ll both be using this quite often.This comes with many other extras just as shown (some sort of meh such as the scissors) but this truly is a great little starter machine. It does all the basic stitches plus some, can sew button holes (with some stitching of switches- explained in the booklet) and having the table included is fantastic.My son was able to cut off a pair of pants he doesn’t like (as they’re starting to get a little too short for his liking) into shorts and sewed a nice hem on them and now he’s got some extra wear out of something we would have donated or thrown out. Next he’s going to make some reusable grocery bags and new curtains for his room and he’s super excited to pick out fabric for those. I plan to use this to continue teaching him how to use and cut from a pattern and see what else we can create. I myself plan to use this to take in a dress and I already hemmed some pants that were too long. I’m impressed so far with this and am really glad to have it.Being it’s lilac purple doesn’t bother my son too much - he’s just excited it works. Learning to sew is a skill that can always come in handy. If you’re on the fence I say go for it. This is priced pretty fairly once you add in the table which is extra for many little machines like this plus all the extra feet, needles, thread and such, so you can’t really go wrong. For basic sewing projects this little machine works. Yes the cords to it are thin and not the greatest and the peddle is small but I give this two thumbs up.
