I am a custom furniture and cabinet maker and wanted to be able to mill moulding in-house. I looked at all the models available. For the money, this Shop Fox seemed to offer the best deal. While it is a planer, I have a dedicated 20" planer, so my focus was on the moulder capability. I first used the machine this week, for some custom 1 1/2" by 2 3/8" moulding in basswood. The knives installed easily with four bolts each, and set up was easy, although I took my time for the first run. The machine has a lot of power, and produced an ultra smooth finish in the completed moulding (I milled about 80 linear feet). No vibration noted during operation. Chip collection is about average; I added a shop vac hose to the front of the machine to catch wood debris not picked up by the 4" hose. Given the size of the moulding I was making, I took three passes until reaching the final depth of cut; the machine did not bog down in any of the cuts. I will update this review as I gain more time on the machine. For now, I am delighted with the fit and finish and performance of the tool, and I would certainly buy this unit again.

I have a small custom cabinet shop and was having trouble getting the molding I needed in the wood species we needed so now I just order the cutters and we make our own.

What a great machine, assembled the moulder in about 45 minutes with no trouble. The quality of this machine is outstanding. I have used it to make trim out of red oak and as a planer and it works great. I am very happy with this machine.

I bought this machine to do custom trim pieces. I wish that i could have stayed with a machine that would have been american made, but with the large difference in price I made this purchase. For the woodworker that is considering a moulder I would recommend this moulder!1. Shipped and packaged well and came in good condition, and all parts were there.2. Assembly was easy and the machine was only in a few different pieces.NOTE: Get help with the headstock! I am a big guy and this was very heavy for me alone!3. The knives were very easy to change from planing to moulding!! Very Nice!!4. There was some set up from the planing to moulding feature especially with the feed roller tension, but it did not take much work to prepare for the moulding setup. If you are a a person that has made it all the way to making your own mouldings you should be able to figure out this setup!5. There was not much more to do, other than the obvious test of moulding some stock!! That night I ran 16 feet of birch crown and it came out great!! The noise makes you think that you definitly did something wrong and just ruined your brand new toy, but don't worry you you can always buy another one!!LOL The one thing I would say is that if you think you are going to run a bunch of 2 1/4" trim for your house and save a bunch of money......you will probably realize that you cannot compete with the large millwork distributers!! But if you want the satisfaction of being able to create any spieces of trim, in any profile you want, this is a GREAT MACHINE FOR THE PRICE!!I had to give this machine a 4 star review because it was missing the made in USA sticker!!LOL I know I know..... But that is one expensive sticker!! Happy Moulding!!!

Recieved this machine a few weeks ago. After about 250ln ft of trim the power feeders stopped working. i called tech support and went through several test that concluded the circuit board inside the stand was no good. The warranty covered the new part but I've now been waiting a full week and UPS just told me that they used the cheapest shipping method which doesn't guarantee my package arriving for a few more days. So now this brand new machine is just sitting in the corner of my shop and putting my project behind. I will NEVER buy another shop fox product again.

It’s well made and works great. Only comment I have is that they should spend a little more time on the instruction Manual or post an online video on assembly and set up. I would definitely recommend it for anyone was making moldings.

The final mile shipper was a complete pain (XPO Logistics). Weeks late and no response from them until I got Amazon involved. The issue I have with the machine is setup. I had a custom knife made, which is why I bought the machine, to make one profile over-and-over. Setting up the distance between the lowest point on the knife, where it is removing the most material, and the feed rolls is challenging. I contacted Shop Fox's support with no response. I am maxed out on how far I can push the feed rolls down (minimizing this distance) with the eccentric cam, but am still hogging out too much material. If I move the knife carriage up to remove less material, the drive rolls stop feeding the material.Haven't solved it yet and Shop Fox has been no help.

This machine is a beast for the money. I have owned it two years now and have literally run thousands of feet of different profiles from 1 inch wide to 6 inches wide. So far not a single problem other than a broken belt one time I too was on the fence between this machine and a Williams and Hussey, I like quality tools, but I can buy two shop foxes for the price of one W/H. For my small shop it was a no-brainer and if I had to do it over again I would buy another shop fox!

I am a hobby user so haven't used it a bunch. But simply put, as a machine designed to spin a cutter against wood this unit meets the mark. It is robustly designed and comes with extended table that was ground to a mirror finish. As a Canadian consumer I was able to purchase the Shop Fox at price point
