I purchased these to use with heavy polyester thread to sew on bias tape binding on marine carpeting. My 59 year old eyes managed to thread the needle pretty easily and the first one installed hasn't broken even when used to go through the double fold bias tape, hot glue (to hold the tape in place), the marine carpeting, and the bottom side of the double fold bias tape. Please note that I am using my own heavy duty sewing machine. (I had to replace my wife's after I ruined it making sails and breaking all of her needles.)

I use these when I’m using Tex 70 thread. It’s perfect. No thread shredding at all. They’re sturdy enough to sew through many layers of fabric and/or vinyl/leather. Occasionally is hand-crank the machine over the thickest seams, but the needle hangs in there.

Don’t buy cheap knockoffs. Sure, you get more for your buck, but you’ll also run through them really quickly. The singer needles are always sharp and last so much longer than those no name needles. I’m done trying to be frugal with the wrong purchases.
