I wrote a bad review previously, but after looking at my broken Bodum, I can that it also has some space at the bottom. Honestly, I think these 12 oz presses should go down further because you use a smaller amount of coffee and tend to make other things in them, but the fact is, there is no difference between this product and all the other products in that respect. Having said that, the Bodum has a plastic lid and a plastic guide for the shaft that broke off after about 6 uses. This one uses Bamboo which should hold up much longer. Sorry Sivaphe for the temporary bad PR i created.

I was hesitant about this press when I saw reviews about it cracking. I made sure to “preheat†it as per the directions. Which makes sense. Common sense will tell you to not pour boiling hot water in a glass carafe. I only heat my water to 185-190• anyway. It made a perfect cup of coffee. It was easy to operate and easy to clean. The value for the money is great and it looks cute as hell on my countertop â¤ï¸ðŸ‘ðŸ»

So happy to be drinking plastic free coffee now. Glass seems a bit fragile though so I make sure to warm it up with hot tap water before pouring in the even hotter brewing water.

Update:I didn't realize it at first but the beaker had a hairline crack that expanded. Luckily I noticed in time and I was able to get a replacement from Amazon. I do wish that the glass was a bit thicker for this product. I still wanted a different handle material, so I wound up ordering a "Bodum Chambord Coffee Maker 3 Cup 0.35 Liter 12 Ounce Shiny" french press used from Amazon Warehouse for $15 in "like new condition." It was a bit of a tight fit but the glass beaker did fit into the Bodum stainless steel stand. I am currently using this brand's glass beaker and bamboo lid with the Bodum stainless steel holder that has a plastic handle. I really do like this french press overall and I would give it 5 stars if the handle was a more durable material such as stainless steel, plastic, or silicone.Original Review:I ordered this 12 oz French press and Ascot glass electric kettle based on Tamara Rubin’s advice for nontoxic and lead free kitchen items. It is beautiful but I wish the handle was either stainless steel or even plastic so that it could go through the dishwasher and there would be less worry of deterioration. I have hand washed it a few times and you can the see the bamboo is already drying out a bit on the handle. I am not having this problem with the bamboo top. I know that I could oil it but ideally I would like something that I could just rinse and pop into the dishwasher. I went so far as to order the same brand’s 12 oz version with a black plastic handle and lid to use for parts. I was hoping to swap out just the handle portion so that I would have the black handle with the original glass beaker without writing with the bamboo lid (I do not want the plastic lid touching the hot coffee). However, the glass beaker for the 12 oz glass/plastic combo is narrower. The bamboo lid is unable to press down as shown in the picture. It’s definitely a bummer. I am still trying to figure out what I want to do. I could possibly remove the beaker from the bamboo handle before washing it but I like to wash it right away and it’s very hot. I am debating if I should just switch over to another brand that is all glass and stainless steel. I saw a 34 oz one at IKEA that was reasonably priced.

Looks beautiful but the round filter screen had a crease in it which allowed grains to float up into the coffee that you pour to drink. Then the glass cracked after just a few uses. We are experienced french press users and are very careful. Never had this happen before! Disappointing. Waste of money.

I love this little French press. I love that it’s glass and very light and compact. I use it to brew chai every morning. It’s so amazing! I love freshly brew chai and this little French press makes it really easy. I just add my looseleaf chai And hot water and let it steep and then hot milk. It bruised the perfect cup. I love you can use this for more than coffee.

I liked the size and the look, it worked well, but three months later the handle broke. Maybe because the holes in handle where the screws attach it were too tight. the seller did send me a replacement.

I agree with others that this is a nice looking press. I bought it because it doesn't contain any plastic. However, the little knob at the top is made in 2 parts and came off in my hand the first time we used it. Additionally, the metal that encases the glass carafe is rather loose fitting and you have to be ever so careful when pouring or emptying that the glass doesn't just slide right out and break. I think maybe we just got a dud.Update: seller contacted me and sent a replacement. The glass carafe fits nice and snug. No problems. Good customer service. Thank you

I purchased this for my mother whose plastic one was awkward to use, hard to clean and cumbersome. She is delighted with this. Aesthetically pleasing too.

The product was ok overall. But the discovery of the lines of scratches (see red ovals indicated on the photos), near vertical, was annoying/disturbing. These scratches are visible and could potentially accelerate crack formation (during use, repeated thermal loading). The lines of scratches could arise from forcing the glass into the holder and twisting the glass into position. why would someone do this (when he/she can unscrew to loosen the holder) I do not know. Hence I sought to return the item.(12 Feb 2021: The delivery guy came to collect my items a few weeks ago, but I received no acknowledgement nor was I refunded for the return by Amazon. This is unacceptable.)

Unit is easy to clean, filters well, and makes some pretty great tea, if not the conventional way. Seems built well and should last for awhile.

I have one friend who prefers his coffee from a french press, so I really only wanted a single serving cafetière, and this little one fits the bill exactly. It is small and compact, takes up very little room in tye cupboard and works well however the bamboo/ wood areas are not sealed on arrival so I personally recommend treating them with food oil ( olive oil/ Rapeseed oil) or as I did with pure beeswax, otherwise it will be prone to splitting when it gets damp ( had this issue with a bamboo tea tray set, arrived unsealed, I hand washed one a couple of times and it just dried right out and cracked / split, I treated the other two in the set and they are still going strong 6 years on, so immediately recognised that the wood on this cafetière was not treated).Overall excellent little french press, very happy with it, does tye job I bought it for.
