Changing your lower unit gear oil can be a simple job if you have the right kit, and Slippery Pete's Lower Unit Gear Oil Pump is definitely the right one!
For starters, this kit comes with 3 different adapters:
- 3/8"-16 Swivel Steel Adapter
- 8mm-1.25 Male x 3/8"-16 Female Adapter
- 10mm-1.25 Male x 3/8"-16 Female Adapter
With these 3 adapters, this kit will fit MOST outboard lower unit drain holes. For American made outboards, you'll probably only need to use the 3/8" Swivel Adapter, since most American brands have a 3/8" lower unit drain hole. This swivel steel adapter is much more convenient than the plastic ones (shown in one of the above pictures), because you do not need to turn the entire pump as you're screwing the adapter into the drain hole. And since it is made of steel, you do not have to worry about stripping the threads (which often happens when screwing a plastic adapter into steel threads).
However, for most foreign made outboards, you'll probably need to use one of the 2 metric adapter WITH the 3/8" Swivel Adapter, as demonstrated in the picture above. (NONE OF THE ADAPTERS IN THIS KIT WILL FIT VOLVO PENTA)
The 8cc pump itself comes with a long and a short suction tube so that it will reach the bottom of your quart bottle (depending on the height of the quart bottle). NOTE: THE PUMP'S CAP ADAPTER WILL ONLY FIT STANDARD QUART BOTTLES WITH A 28mm (1.125") OPENING!

I used this pump to replace the lower unit oil in my Honda 20 HP dingy motor. I use OEM Honda Lower Unit oil which has a wide mouth top. this pump fit perfectly and included the correct screw in adapter to fill the lower unit case. seems well made, no leaks and pumps fine. I would recommend it if you're looking for a decent little hand pump.

This pump works very well. They key is the fittings that come with it. Other pumps are a little less expensive but having the proper fittings makes for a much cleaner transfer of oil.

Been changing lower unit oil most of my life. I used my old pump on my new Honda outboard. It did not fit so I simply held it in place. It was working fine until the hose came off the pump on bottle. Pumped a slug of oil into my hand. Now I need a third hand to fix the pending mess. The slippery Pete pump had the threads that fit and a better hose connection than I had been using. This year I didn’t have oil anywhere when the job was done. Quick, easy and clean.
