I should have better educated myself on this unit. I cannot use it without spending a bit more cash but that is not the manufacturer's fault, it is clearly mine. At the point of writing this review, I possess no filter this unit can accept. It seems to only only play nice with SmallRig filters which the manufacturer made fairly clear in the listing. I am a fool. I'll give a review on my impression of it even though I haven't used it.This thin is awesome and compact and I really, really want to use it for filters. It's my favorite filter accessory I can't use, lol. I can use it as a matte box however and it is a great one in my opinion. It fits so easily in any bag that there is no reason to leave on a shoot without this thing.The build quality is quite good and a prime example of SmallRig excellence. SmallRig always manages to hit a good price without passing off cheap, fragile garbage to its customers.

This thing is great. It’s very versatile. Accommodate different size lenses which is great. The build quality is excellent. It works as an adjustable ND filter and it can hold a 100mm x 100mm filter in the front too. I recommend this product to serious video makers and photographers.

I've been a hobbyist photographer since the 1970s, but was able to more seriously pursue certain forms of photography in earlier years due to work and the time necessary to raise a family. However, I am now enjoying retirement and have opportunities to expand and experiment with the types of photography I have previously missed out on.I have acquired this very well-designed and constructed SmallRig Matte Box as a first step towards utilizing a professional level filtering system for more specialized projects with scenes that include sunrises, sunsets and other high contrast situations where adding ND filters can make a striking difference in outcomes.I am extremely pleased with this product! SmallRig has continued to fairly consistently develop a welcomed reputation for bringing quality photographic equipment/accessories to the market, and this rectangular & circular filter holding, clamping frame for DSLR & mirrorless systems is certainly one such addition.The matte box holds 4" x 5.65" rectangular filters via a hinged release, side-opening slot. The SmallRig matte box can also accommodate 67mm magnetic circular filters compatible with this type system. The matte box's clamping mechanism will accept lens diameters from 67mm to 82mm.I recommend this product to others who are also looking to challenge their more innovative photographic capabilities.

Easy to put together. But the way it mounts on a lens is not great. It’s innovative and cool in the fact that it can mount to any lens. It just doesn’t mount very securely and can be easily knocked off. I haven’t had any issues yet but I do view it as a bit of a liability. It’s cheap plastic. It’s over priced. But I suppose it does the job. The VND is cool, but again, I try to avoid messing with it too much as to not accidentally knock the whole thing off the lens. I’d maybe recommend waiting until a better version, or until Tilta makes a copy of it, and hope that it works better.

I ordered this matte box upon its release because I thought it would be the exact thing I needed but economically it just isn’t good. The front of the map comes off with even the slightest bit of pressure. The design is so poor it clicks in with very little force and takes absolutely no force at all for it to come off meaning that if you were using this handheld, the front of the map box will unclip itself, multiple times during a shoot which can lead to an embarrassing slam as it Falls off the camera onto the ground

This one is neat though, it installs easily, and has no problem fitting the entire range of front element diameters. I think the one I received may have been previously opened, but it also could have just been hastily hand packed by the overnight shift. Either way everything was there. The variable ND is a cool feature, the two filter faces fit so closely together that I’m worried they’ll scratch each other, but they spin easily. My widest angle that fit on this was my 17mm, and it didn’t cause any issues with components being in view.

This is a pretty advanced matte box that gives you a lot of options for filters. Works just fine as a sunshade, but there are cheaper options for that out there.

Es de buena calidad y muy liviano, el sistema funciona muy bien aunque puede ser un poquito complicado lograr insertar a la primera el matte box en el lente, pero queda muy firme y el ND se ve de buena calidad

Fantastic price for a fantastic product. Quality control still seems dubious, as I did receive my copy of the item with some scratches on the plastic, despite the item being "New." Doesn't seem to affect its usability, but it is rather disappointing to see that the product isn't in the best of conditions out of the box.The only other problem I have is, sometimes the VND doesn't turn very smoothly and gets stuck on one another, and requires a bit of finagling to get unstuck.Otherwise, for the price, versatility, and light weight of the mattebox, this is definitely a must-have in my video/film kit now!

La confezione è molto bella, me ne son innamorato!Nella scatola troviamo la matte box ed una custodia rigida e molto carina in cui riporre tutti i nostri filtri.L'installazione è facilissima, ha un grosso range verso cui è compatibile, da 67mm a 82mm, basta stringere con le maniglie laterali, inserire l'obbiettivo e lasciar andar le maniglie così che vadano a bloccare il tutto, poi con una vite che stringiamo a mano andiamo a bloccar l'obbiettivo anche dall'alto ed il gioco è fatto.Aperta la matte box, troviamo un coperchio magnetico comodissimo per coprire anche eventualmente il filtro nd che montiamo, così da non dover metter e togliere sempre, poi possiamo con la rotella posta in alto andar a regolare gli stop del filtro nd in uso.A proposito, possiamo andar ad aggiungere o togliere anche altri filtri nostri personali, inserendoli dall'alto comodamente.Penso sia un accessorio estremamente utile soprattutto in ambito video, e soprattutto con luci forti dall'alto che vogliamo andar a regolare, ovviamente è un prodotto per professionisti ed è comunque relegato a determinate situazioni e non è il classico oggetto da aver sempre con se dietro, bisogna sapere quando usarlo e quando lasciarlo a casa dato che comunque ha il suo ingombro.Complessivamente mi è piaciuto tanto, si sente la qualità , si vede che è pensato e progettato bene per andar a risolvere un problema che si può presentare.Mi è piaciuto tanto

I've got into doing some Amateur photography over the last few years and I have never got around to getting myself one of these. Now that I am trying some more trickier shoots in really bright conditions I really need to control the light better in order prevent any unwanted glare hitting the lens and ruining my shots. I was advised to get a Matte Box and this one appears to be an excellent device for achieving exactly what I want. This Matte box not only helps me block and control any unwanted light but it also protects the lens and comes with a filter tray that can hold different types of filters, such as ND (Neutral Density), CPL (Circular Polarizer), and others.This SMALLRIG Matte Box is versatile due to several key features. First, the adjustable clamp accommodates lenses from 67mm to 82mm, which means it can be used with multiple lenses that I have in my kit already, which all have different diameters.Secondly, it comes with both CPL 1 and 2 filters, allowing for different levels of polarization. These filters significantly enhance image quality by reducing glare and improving colour saturation. Swapping the filters is quick and easy, and they stay securely in place during use, which is exactly what I was after.The build quality is excellent as it's sturdy yet lightweight, which is perfect for both handheld and rig-mounted shoots. The included lens hood and top flag do a great job of controlling any lens flares, especially when shooting in really bright conditions.Lastly, the 3 point locking system with quick release makes it so easy to assemble and dissemble.This really is made for professional photographers and it is definitely worth investing in if you do it as your job, or like me, you do it for your hobby, but you do it several times a month like I do, in order to get a good return on your investment. There are cheaper alternatives available but then they don't tick all the boxes that a top brand like SMALLRIG does. Personally I would always pay that little extra to get a top brand name product such as this, and not because they are 100 times better than the rest, but it's the support you get when something does go wrong that sets SMALLRIG apart from the others. I have had my professional photographer friends check this Matte Box over and they also agree that this is one of the better ones on the market. and that you can't go far wrong with a brand like SMALLRIG.
