My 3 year old, who does have a big head, has been using this at nature preschool. I thought he’d find it annoying but he’s happy to wear it. It is a bit big on him but it’ll ensure that he can wear it for a few years. Doesn’t seem itchy or scratchy for him and still thin enough to wear a hat over.

This balaclava is just the right size for my 5-year-old, which room to grow. It's snug, but not tight. It can be worn as a make-shift scarf, or as a balaclava underneath a hooded coat. It's thin, but cozy. It's well shaped, and an overall great purchase.

Daughter loves it! Keeps her warm during snowy weather and activities! She’s 8, fits perfect. Would be too small for adult or bigger kid.

Our two year old likes it. We live in Wisconsin and use it as a base layer or on its own. It's on the thinner side and not windproof but still warm. It's stretchy and will last her a while. It doesn't slide over her eyes. It feels a tiny bit scratchy to me but I'm very sensitive.

Soft, just a little big for my 23mo (whose head is in the 50th percentile), but not too loose so we hope to get a lot of use out of it for nature school this winter and next!Can't speak for durability but so far, we're pleased with the quality and would definitely recommend it!

I bought this Smartwool Merino 250 Balaclava (dark gray, one size) for my 10-year-old son to wear around town through winter (-5ºC to 5ºC). It's been a few weeks now and overall, I'm very satisfied.For reference, his head has a 53cm diameter around the temples.My son reports that the mask is very comfortable and warm, although I dare not try it on myself – my head is much larger! But, where he had gone from regular complaints of cold around his neck, ears and face, he is now very happy.The merino wool is fantastic. It's soft against the skin and not itchy at all, which is a huge plus for a kid's item – especially as my son is very tactile-sensitive.It also seems to do a great job of wicking away moisture, as my son never complained about being sweaty, even after hours of active play. His only complaint is that the mask gets damp around the mouth when he's wearing it up over his nose, but that's to be expected with any mask.The mask is well-constructed, with clean, flat seams that don't cause any irritation. The fit is good, providing full coverage of the head and neck. It holds its shape very well when pulled over his face and nose.Overall, this is a high-quality balaclava that I would definitely recommend. It's warm, comfortable, and made from excellent materials.
