My son is five years old with a little kid size 13 shoe, and the medium fit him perfectly. I bought these for snowboarding and they kept his feet warm outside in 20° weather for over six hours. I wash them in cold water and they lasted great!

These socks have worked well for my kids for skiing for years. They don't get sweaty and they provide enough shin cushion that the ski boots don't hurt more than usual. They are typical softwool socks in that they aren't as soft as a cotton sock but they do the trick and my kids have never complained about the feel.They run a bit small since they have some thickness to them. My kids outgrow the current size in these before their other socks. Would purchase a size up.

I wear smartwool specially for snowboarding, and I have for 5 years now. My favorite pair needed to be replaced, so I bought the smallest adult sized pairs I could find in multiple styles - all of them were too big and would slip around in my snowboard boots after ~5min of wearing them.These kids socks somehow fit me perfectly, they stay a comfortable tightness (not too tight or too loose) for the entire duration of my snowboard day.I highly recommend these socks!

Overall, these socks are warm and nice but you may consider to choose one size bigger one. I bought x-small size for 4 years old. It was perfect fit at the first time but after washing it , socks shrunk. I used cold water for laundry and did air dry though.
