I used this this today, sharpend up all my machetes, used a vice for securely mounting them. Worked like a champ!

Device is simple and easy to use. Within seconds I had a nice edge on my machete. Though while great at getting an edge on utility knives, I would not recommend this for blades that require more care. Excellent build for the price and I will definitely buy another when this one wears out.

I have used this on two machetes, and neither of my blades seemed to have an edge with the same relief angle as this sharpener. Once I reshaped the edge, the sharpener worked as advertised and as I have come to expect from Smith's sharpeners. This may be better suited to the blade angle on axes, but I have not tried it on an axe. Overall good sharpener if blade angle is correct.

As much as I would love to be able to work a sharp edge onto my machete by hand... it is just not a priority. I do however use my $20 machete from Home Depot quite often and a sharp edge is incredibly important. I run this guy over the edge a few times when I notice it isn't chopping as well, and I am back in business.The other guys prefer to use my machete (when I'm not using it) because of how sharp this gets it. My cheap machete cuts better than my coworkers expensive Gerber machete. I'm not knocking Gerber. That machete will last much longer than my crapper, but this sharpener is a great alternative to working that edge manually.

This sharpener does sharpen knives with thin blade not for axe or machete unless the blade can fit on the small opening. .Also, the extra sharpening blade can the seller resend a new set? When sharpening long knives the plastic holder easily got scratched.

Very happy with this purchase. This sharpener was purchased to reprofile blades for several outdoor cutters and did an excellent job. I had developed several small chips and dings over the years and was able to remove all of them. I don't think this would remove severe damage, for that you would need a grinder. Once the blades are profiled bringing back ti wicked sharp is simple. The cleaning brush is a nice touch and the carbide cutters are replaceable. Great addition to the tool box, well made. I would, without hesitation rerecommend this product to a friend or family member.

Is there a woman's machete axe sharpener to compliment this mens one?Does the job without problems.Wife used it to sharpen hand axe and log splitting maul then split 2 tons logs yesterday.Maybe a little pricey for what it is but overall pleased with simple tool that works.If you want a really good edge on a hand axe you will need to finish it on a stone. For a splitting maul its not so important.
