Nice tools if you need them. It’s best to leave them alone or call the fire department.

I may be a little different than most folks. I typically carry a pillow case with me in whatever vehicle I am driving, just in case I get a snake crossing the road or just slithering around. Normally I only want Rat Snakes or King Snakes or any other nice size / pretty snake. I like to release them in or around my barn to help keep the rodent population in check I like this bag with telescoping handle, it looks good and feels good in the hand and has a draw string towards the top of the bag to cinch it closed, easy to use and a good functional design that seems durable. As far as I’m concerned it maybe ok for all snakes if not transporting them too far, I wouldn’t feel comfortable with a poisonous snake in this bag in the car sitting next to me, maybe the draw string needs to be used a while to break it in, Snakes can be sneaky and they are great escape artists… I have learned over the years. Once they get loose in my car, they are hard to convince to come out, more experience I’ve had. I would feel ok catching a poisonous snake and transporting a short walking distance, but I don’t think I can cinch the drawstring enough to comfort my mind to drive with it. I’m not sure how much weight the handle is designed for, I cannot imagine having a big heavy snake, say over 8lbs in the bag and carrying it with the handle, especially fully extended. I do wish this bag would have come with one of the snake catcher devices, either a hook type design or clamping type, trying to coax a snake into a bag is something to ponder, maybe I can get flute. If this bag / handle combo was twice the diameter, it would make a great butterfly catcher net, especially with the telescoping handle, but I’m not 100% comfortable approaching a six foot Rattlesnake with just this net - it can be done, just be safe.

Where I live is on the fringes of desert and the suburbs and there is plenty of wildlife out here, including rattlesnakes. When there were fewer houses in the area, there were many encounters with snakes, but the past couple of years were snake free. However after a couple of wet seasons, there has been a resurgence of rabbits and rodents which are good food for snakes. I had an encounter with a rattlesnake hiding in my backyard and one of my dogs was bitten when she was sniffing around. Fortunately I was able to get her to the emergency vet and with anti venom and a blood transfusion she was okay after an overnight stay.I was able to trap the snake under a 5 gallon bucket and with a piece of cardboard was able to contain it.when I saw that this net was available, I ordered it as I’m sure it will be much easier to use than the plastic bucket. It has a long handle and a deep net so once a snake is in it, there should be little worry about it trying to get out. There is also a string to close the opening to be sure. I’m hoping that I won’t ever need to use it, but it certainly is good insurance to have it in case there is another snake encounter.
