I have had some encounters with snakes on my backyard in the past, one black snake, and 2 copperheads. Luckily, I managed to relocate them by catching them with an insect net / stick, and putting them in a bucket for relocation. Obviously the insect net is not design for this, so I had hard time to manage the situation with that tool. I ordered this snake hook to be prepared on my next encounter, however, I skipped that part of the description (my fault) that says this item is just 33 inches long. Fortunately all the snakes I've seen over my patio have been small to juveniles. Never an adult size snake. I guess this hook/telescopic stick will work just fine with small to medium sized snakes. But I don't see myself handling a LARGE adult snake with this short size stick. I mean, not sure if an adult size copperhead could just jump over those 33 inches that keep us apart, lol. But anyway, it seems sturdy, nice shaped hook, and good grip in the black handle.

We have SO many snakes in the summer. I find them in the garage, on the porch, in the shed, trying to get in the chicken coop, hanging from trees.. you name it, we have snakes there. For years I've been walking around with a home made "snake stick" so I'm hoping this hook might be a nice addition to my snake gear. I feel like it might be a little short for my purposes, but we'll see how it goes.

This snake hook is not sturdy. The bigger issue is that it is too short to keep a snake at a safe distance. I will udpate this review if needed based on further experience.

I wish it was just a little bit longer, but that's ok. What really surprised me is that once you extend it out and tighten everything up, it's very very solid, which is rare with things that telescope like this. It doesn't wobble at the joints at all.I took a chance on this because I needed a snake stick, and figured if this one was too weak at the joints, I wasn't really out any money, so why not? However, the stick is really well put together, so I'm super pleased with this product!

This is about what you'd expect from a snake hook, though a bit longer would have been nice -- if the relevant reptile is big enough to require a hook of this size, I'd like to be a bit further away from it. But overall, it's not bad. It's not outstandingly good, either. The hook end is excellent, but the extendable shaft feels flimsy. The aluminum tubes should have been heavier gauge. A thinner shaft made of heavier-gauge tubing would have been much better.I don't happen to have a sufficiently large snake for testing around at the moment; using a mid-sized corn snake would be kind of silly. But in comparison to my other snake hooks, and the ones I've looked at over the years at reptile expos, I'd have to rate this at distinctly "meh." If you don't need a really sturdy snake stick (I was amused at the picture of the cute little garter snake!) you can get one cheaper; if you do need a really sturdy snake stick, you can get one better.I vacillated for a while on the rating -- I wish it was a bit more granular; I'd have rated this at 3.5 -- but I can't really recommend this one.

works perfectly, nice extension, does exactly what we need it to and what was expected, so thumbs up here!

Mostly standard hook/handling stick. Good to have around to move harmless snakes out of the way so as not to mow over them or have to handle them. But it's a bit shorter than we are comfortable with if the occasion arises to deal with more dangerous snakes.

I ordered this because I need a reacher/grabber and it suits its purpose. I need items the fell in between the wall and my washer as well as my cabinets. It works well, extends and is a good value for the ease of use and price.
