Having gotten the new 1 gb 45 hour disc mini disc, I am happy because it is now possible to get on one disc what I previously had to spread over 34 standard 80 minute discs. If I want, I can store about 900 songs, or 70 cd's, or save a whole year of voice lessons.Can you imagine how great it is to no longer worry about running out of disk space or having to delete tracks to create space, or using a lot of discs.For $6.99 for 45 hours, this is $0.15 per hour compared to about $1.50 per disc for the standard 80 minute discs, so the value is incredible.If you have an older MD player you may find this HI-MD to be incompatible with that software, so be sure your player is compatible or that you have updated software before buying. My MZN HF800 (reviewed separately) is compatible.I highly recommend this. I hope this review was helpful.

The product overall is good. You can store mp3 and pcm files. The only 2 problems I have with this player is that the files are hidden inside Sony's proprietary file system and you cannot upload files twice from the player. The second time it deletes the file from your disc. Beware of Sony's DRM. If you use it for recording interviews and want to convert it to wave files you will be good with the first upload but the second upload deletes your interview and you wouldn't know it until you try to open it again.Pro: Good sound, nice design, great idea and finally support for MP3 (took Sony long enough)Con: Stupid DRM, uses proprietary file system that hides your filesStay away from Hi-MD players until you find a way to extract the files without it being deleted.

I love this minisisc. It holds an incredible amount of songs--the equivolent of an I-pod mini-- and the ease of use of my minidisc recorder is great. BUT DON'T BUY IT HERE! Just by having it in my order it jacked up the shipping charge by $9.00 while everything else in my order would have been shipped free. And you can get them at your neighborhood Radio Shack for the same price as here. I got a HI-MD recorder instead of an I-Pod and I'm glad I did. Just don't buy the disks from Amazon.

I use my Sony MZ-NHF800 Hi-MD Minidisc Walkman to record audio onto this item. With technology that has been created regarding MP3s and WAV files and the like, there is so much that you can now do with HI-MD recording onto 1 GB discs!When using the adequate gear, including the 1 GB minidisk, one can gain access to files, ranging from I-Tunes to Rhapsody to Windows Media Player. For those who have thought of giving up on MD, I say, "Don't do it! Especially the HI-MD!" There are ways you can now reproduce your CDs without that seemingly incompatible, obsolete ATRAC/SONIC STAGE software!There are companies that have come out with driver updates and products that have made this 1 GB minidisk recording compatible with Windows Vista.In effect, I continue to find ways to record onto the 1 GB MD and always look forward to the next developments as they arise.

Habe bisher mit den 'normalen' Minidisks aufgenommen, meistens 'Hi-LP' im Atrac-Format. Damit haben die Disks eine wirklich ausreichende Lauflänge, aber nicht bei PCM-Aufnahmen - da schaffen sie etwa 20 Minuten. Das ändert sich mit der HiMD 1 GB Kapazität.Ich nehme Audio (Livekonzerte) in PCM auf, weil ich sie danach noch nachbearbeiten will. Die beste Qualität in der Aufnahme hat das PCM-Format, weil es nicht gepackt und qualitätsreduziert ist wie mp3 oder eben Atrac. Damit erzeuge ich .wav-Dateien, die ich nachbearbeiten und dann unmittelbar auf eine Audio-CD brennen kann.1 GB Kapazität heisst für die Aufnahmedauer: etwa 1,5 Stunden Aufnahme (im PCM-Format) ist möglich - reicht bei mir auch bei den längsten Konzerten, im Zweifelsfall, wenn ich Pausen und Klatschen mit der Pausentaste ausblende und nur die Stücke aufnehme. Wenns wirklich nicht reicht: einfach eine neue HiMD-Disk rein, und ich hab nochmal 1,5 Stunden. Der Akku des Gerätes hält ein Vielfaches der Zeit durch. Die Aufnahmequalität ist bestimmt durch das Mikrofon und die Analog-Digitalwandler des Gerätes. Und die sind (in der Preisklasse) über jeden Zweifel erhaben.Stelle ich den Minidisc-Player auf Hi-LP (Atrac) um, kann ich viele viele Stunden Aufnahmen machen - angeblich mehr als 34 Sunden, ich habs aber noch nicht getestet. Die Länge sollte aber für alle denkbaren Anwendungszwecke ausreichen!

So much easier than driving over to Macc to the sony shop, the disc arrived quickly and was soon put to use. Ironically I then realised that, having shopped worldwide on Amazon, the seller was actually based in my home town less than a mile from where I live. What are the chances of that?

Die HiMD ist Spitze. Nicht nur, dass man wahlweise unkomprimiert (CD Qualität) oder komprimiert Musik aufnehmen kann, darüber hinaus kann man die HiMD (per USB) auch als transportabler Datenträger für den Computer benutzen. Und bei ca. 1 Gigabyte passt ne Menge Daten bzw. komprimierte Musik (bis zu ca. 45 Stunden) drauf.Da die HiMD nicht auf den alten MD-Geräten abspielbar ist, habe ich mir bei Amazon zwei SONY NH600 und über ebay noch einen gebrauchten NH900 (für Microaufnahmen) gekauft.Meine Erfahrungen sind nur positiv. Und da auch die dazu gehörige Software (SonyStage) seit der Version 3.2 auch nicht mehr restriktiv beim Kopieren ist, wird das Ganze positiv abgerundet.Aufgrund der vielen Möglichekeiten, würde ich, vor die Wahl gestellt, HiMD oder ein MP3 Gerät, immer zur HiMD greifen.
