This is a great set. It temperature gauge on the outside allows to make sure my sourdough starter is staying at a certain temperature. The size is perfect for allowing the starter to double. And I love the cloth cover for the top making it quick and easy to cover while on the counter.

Sure you can use a canning jar but this one has a wide open mouth and the elastic time hour and day band around it . It is very practical in use. The stir spatula is perfect with a strong wooden handle and just the right size end to stir stiff started. You won't be disappointed if you buy it~!

Love, love, love these! The wide mouth makes it easy to pour in pre-measured dough and water, as well as trying to scoop out sourdough discard. Having the cloth cover is intriguing - better to have it rather than having bugs and to provide some (safe) air exchange.I haven't included the temp strips to the jars, as I do (more often than not) throw the jars in the dishwasher for sanitary reasons and aggravating build up. (Note: Company only suggests handwashing, but for me - there is only so much I can handwash and feel confident in re-using.)

Not bad. Has everything you need to start. I just wish the top of the glass jar didn’t have a little taper. Makes it just a little bit more difficult to keep clean.

I highly recommend this for a beginner. It works very well and does exactly what it says it will do. Easy to use and to measure the time and volume.

I understand that any large mouth glass vessel is sufficient:I understand that any cloth & elastic band is fit for purpose:I understand that if one has a cold kitchen then placing the starter dough up high on the fridge will do:I understand that newbies can eyeball the daily rise or not & keep a tally on a piece of scrap paper:I understand that any kitchen spatula is able to scrape down the sides:I understand that this Sourdough Starter Kit is wholly unnecessary!But! It is so-o-o perfectly adorable :-) AndTo nurture one's own active yeast is to initiate a whole new adventure in food prep self-reliance :-)Like in Spring: Put one's ear to the ground: Hear the grass growing!?No objective reasoning for this purchase: It's the spirit of the purpose!

Has everything necessary for making/feeding sourdough bread starter. The same job could be done with a wide-mouth mason jar and an elastic for determining starter growth, but this set-up, including measurements on the side made it simple.

I love this size for my sourdough starter. It's not too big so it fits nicely in my fridge between feedings but is also big enough to make enough starter for 2 or more loaves. So far the measure on the side hasn't rubbed off despite being put in the dishwasher numerous time. The small spatula is also great for getting into the jar. I like the smooth sides to make scraping down easy.

So excited when our packaged arrived, we started right away. Instructions are clear and easy to follow. Tools are well made, really like the temperature and date band.
