This works well, and the user just needs to make sure to run the wand across all the circuits first to normalize it. Also, the circuit traced needs to be live. Sometimes the wand will indicate the space between two breakers, but switching one off and seeing if the wand reacts is enough to verify which is the correct circuit.

Sometimes it may not tell you if it is one or the other breaker. Just turn one off and you'll know. This thing basically gets you in the ballpark faster than by pure trial and error. I used it with a friend to map out the the electrical in a commercial building with 20 circuits. One person stands with the tool at the box and the other plugs the other thing into the outlets. It helps to have walkie talkies or just do a cell call to each other if you have reception inside the building. Its a cool tool, but maybe not as essential as I thought it would be.

With 38 yrs of engineering, Florida electric work is speechless and totally worthless and I am a mechanical engineer so that says everything. Buy the cheap pigtail with the Ali clips and plug, good $10 spent, you get a bag of all this stuff, neat and ready for that next experiment of "find the circuit" did any read the NEC? ever??

Battery was dead when it arrived but once I figured that out it was excellent

When I first got this out of the package I thought it was just useless. It wouldn't stay on for more than 30 seconds with the included battery. Once I put an old 9V off brand battery I found in a drawer that had probably been there for a year or two into it it works pretty well(you have to follow the instructions and scan across the panel twice and hold it exactly as shown). I've never received a device that came with a battery that didn't even last 2 minutes. Even the cheapest junk batteries work for awhile.

I think this item is awesome, and simplifies circuit tracing.

I own(ed) a Harbor Freight circuit breaker detector, which works (or worked, see below) well. However, the power switch sticks out of the side of the receiver, and it's easy to touch it when you're scanning the breaker panel, turning it off (the power switch has a "hair trigger" - the slightest touch toggles it on/off). So, it's a pain to use, because of this. I decided to replace it with this Southwire product. I previously bought a Southwire voltage detector. It worked fine (still does), and was good value. When this unit arrived, I happily tossed out the Harbor Freight unit. Bad decision, because a few weeks later, when I first used the Southwire detector, I found that is just doesn't work. No matter how many times I reset it, no matter how many times I scanned my panel (twice each time, once to learn, second to find the breaker) - nothing, nada, zilch, other than apparently-random beeps. I don't know if the issue was with the receiver, or the transmitter, but it couldn't identify the correct breaker for at least 4 different circuits. I had to revert to the old methods - flip individual breakers while asking my (increasing annoyed) wife if lights / lamps were turning on / off. I ended up buying a Klein unit - which works like a charm. I tested it on a circuit that the Southwire had completely failed to find; the Klein unit correctly identified the breaker as clear as day.

Accurate for pinpointing the circuit breaker in the panel for a particular light fixture, outlet, GFCI, etc.

No sirve para nada, no puedes rastrear cables más allá de 3 o 4 metros, incluso cuando estás en el tablero suena en varios puntos. Malísimo.no gasten su dinero

I'm an electrical apprentice, so this was mostly purchased for work. But, there is still work to do on your own home, there's always something you need to do, right? And of course, one of those things, was to label the fuse box panel mess in the basement. Overall, it works fairly well, especially for being used on fuses, but always make sure to double check. I personally prefer this device over the klein tracer, CURRENTLY, because it is much more distinct when you find the right fuse.

Shipping container was undamaged and ok. The tester however, was damaged. When I opened the battery compartment to load the 9v battery, a small component had broken loose from the inside of the tester. Said component had metal prongs attached to it so it obviously is an important piece and jeopardized the integrity of the unit because I did several test runs and the unit failed every time. Exchanging it for another one.UPDATE: Well, I give up. The replacement arrived undamaged and in new condition. Picked this up for doing side jobs However, I just can't get this thing to work as advertised. I've followed the directions closely. Visited Southwire's website and watched their tutorial and even YouTube entries. My home fuse panel is in order and well labelled. So, when testing this unit, I knew beforehand what breaker should stand out. Even with the recommended 2 passes to eliminate non affected breakers, this unit couldn't distinguish the correct breaker. Even went as far as a 3rd pass but the unit timed out on me. So.. It's a FAIL.
