What does an ABS Sensor do?
The anti-lock braking system uses an ABS or wheel speed sensor to monitor the speed of the wheel, which then sends this information to the ABS computer. In the event of an emergency stop, the ABS computer will use this information to prevent the brakes from locking. If the wheel speeds are not equal, the computer will regulate the anti-lock feature until the speeds are the same
Where are ABS sensors located?
The ABS sensor is usually located in each wheel hub or rotor on a four channel ABS system. The ABS sensor may also be mounted in the rear differential in some rear wheel drive vehicles.
What are the indications of a malfunctioning ABS sensor?
An ABS sensor and wiring can be visually inspected for exposed wires or broken connections. The sensor may also be tested for OE-specified resistance with an ohmmeterh then sends this information to the ABS computer. In the event of an emergency stop, the ABS computer will use this information to prevent the brakes from locking. If the wheel speeds are not equal, the computer will regulate the anti-lock feature until the speeds are the same
ABS Fault light is on
One of the most common indications of a faulty ABS sensor would include the lighting up of the ABS light or the traction control light in the dashboard of the vehicle. If both your ABS Light and brake system light come on, this is an emergency and you need to stop driving right away and check your entire brake system.

The rear wheel sensor was an exact fit on my 1999 dodge ram 1500 4x4 and was a perfect match from the sensor I removed. I did use the extension that was shipped since the pigtail was a the opposite. I did use dielectric creation the o-ring and also connector to keep moisture out of the pigtails. Did fix one issue with my ABS system battle to remove the check light on my dash.

Connection had to force to get it together very hard fit. But it did go and no light on all good.

I had an ABS warning/failure light along with the Brake light for the E brake constantly on while driving my 99 Ram 2500. Popped this thing in which took about an hour start to finish, and no more ABS or brake light. They had come on long before the speedometer went out, so I didn't know that they were connected. Hopefully this helps some poor soul having the same problems I was having.
