Cheap insurance.I pop these onto all of my 2230 SSD’s being ran at 10GB/s or faster. The first time I used a TB5/USB4 housing at full speed, I realized these SSD’s are gonna need help with cooling to keep from being throttled. Hagibis’ MagSafe puck housings are excellent for speed, reliability and cooling, offering uncooled, passive, or TEC, depending on your need.Adding this allowed for good contact between the chip and passive cooling fins, preventing any chance of overheating. I put one on an actively cooled Acasis SSD MagSafe USB4 Hub and have been able to safely record 4K60 ProRes RAW without any stoppages or dropped frames on both iPhone 15 Pro Max and M4 iPad Pro 13.For the price, it’s good insurance as long as your application allows for it.

I am not a tech expert so I don’t have measurements of before and after because I don’t know the best way to get that data. I can speak to installation and quality though. You always forget how small these drives are until you work on them. This heat sink is TINY. Perfectly simple and well done though. The copper is cut and shaped well with no sharp edges and fits the size of the drive nicely. There is an extra thermal pad size the instruction photo on the listing doesn’t mention so I didn’t use it. It comes with all the tools you need to get this job done which is nice but they are of course cheap tools. I recommend if you’re doing this to have your own better quality tools. Overall it was easy to install, fit well and looks great (even though you never will see it). For the price I recommend doing this upgrade if even just for the hope it cools better then the stock setup.

Set this up on a friends Steam Deck after they upgraded the HDD. Took all of three minutes to install. Didn't test the thermals but he's quite happy with the results.
