Pins 1, 5, and 9 are wired straight through. Pin 6 is open circuit. Pins 2 and 3 are cross-wired, as are pins 7 and 8.Who knows why the seller description blabs on and on about HDMI and display port. This cable has nothing to do with video!

These work fine for when I need to get into a physical appliance in a data center that has crashed. I plug this in and then launch hyper terminal (you can use the XP version on Windows 7) set the speed/baud rate, etc. and reconfigure if necessary. These appliances just periodically lose their configurations and you have to get a minimal config on them in order to put the backup of the configuration back on them.

I used this in conjunction with Norton Commander for DOS to back up data from a vintage PC that didn't have a working disk drive. It worked great and got me out of a pinch!

This well made cable has worked perfectly while I have been working with a very old computer and a PC emulating a terminal. During the build, the cable was connected and disconnected numerous times and did not develop any sort of problem.I have used several products from StarTech and have never been disappointed by the design or the quality.
