Thick enough to hold up and narrow enough to fit the back of my rumford fireplace. Had several fires so far. Good heat reflection. Good value for the price

The product description was confusing as Tony material the product was made of, but reasonably sure it it steel upon receipt. It is heavy duty, looks great, was well packaged and in perfect condition when received. Even though it is made of steel if functioned very well as a fireback in terms of generating more heat into our living space.

The box was destroyed and had been taped up many times. Looked like it had been dropped from a tall building. The fireback itself was also damaged. Two decorative 'flowers' both had fallen off. The top of it had been scratched. I can't imagine what led to all that damage. But, the thing weighs a ton and I am keeping it. I will turn it around in my fireplace and use it as is. BUT....I would not recommend that anyone buy this. As I say, it weighs a lot and is too cumbersome to return. Just buy another brand. The damage to this was quite unbelievable. But it is meant to protect my fireplace brick and to reflect heat into the room. It will still do that. So I'm keeping it. It would be a real pain to try to repackage it. But...it look like it's been shipped through a war zone!

Compared to others online this is a good value and whilst I've only used it once, the supposed reflective properties were not felt so I think its mostly for protection of the fireplace bricks that made these popular in the past. Over time it'll likely protect the back of my fireplace from thermal stress but zero difference in heat output from my fireplace, which is what I was hoping for.Update - after about a week of using it i stand by my statement that it does zero for adding useful heat but it will definitely help protect my rear fireplace wall, my next step is looking for a wood burning insert with a blower to get more useful heat from my traditional fireplace.

This iron back is very well made and it’s beautiful also. It radiates a good amount of heat back into the room. It’s heavy. It comes with the feet. I would absolutely buy it again.

I was disappointed that in the area of the plate that receives the most direct heat the plate has begun to rust. We have only owned this for 1-2months. The fireplace is not damp.
