The 250-piece zinc plated steel Woodruff key assortment includes Woodruff keys in various sizes and comes in a compartmented plastic case for storage and organization. They are designed for pulleys and drive shaft applications. The keys are made from steel for strength. The material is magnetic. The zinc plating offers corrosion resistance and a reflective appearance.
Machine keys secure rotating machine components to a shaft and transmit torque from the shaft to the hub or other shaft-supported components. Keys have a square, rectangle, tapered, or Woodruff shape. Tapered keys are suitable for hub adjustment. Woodruff keys are rounded for relief of stress on the shaft during high speed applications.

Woodruff keys have to match the size of the cutter that created the seat. Shops that work in inches use cutters of discreet sizes that match the ANSI standard. Shops that work in metric use keys that match a different standard. They are not interchangeable.This is the least expensive set I could find that is ANSI compliant. The cheaper sets are metric. The ones that I found that claim to be inch simply give the dimensions of the metric keys that they contain in inches. Useless.I gave these 5 stars because you can use them for the stated purpose. They may run a little oversize because of the zinc coating which is useful only to protect them in storage. You can safely scrape it off for fit.

This was a bit pricey, but the alternative was to buy 50 of one size for about $15. I will undoubtedly need more of them as time goes by, so I think it was worth it.

Nice little stainless steel container with cotton string. Will be nice addition to kitchen and help tie up chicken or beef prior to roasting.

I thought that maybe I could spend more and get a superior product, at least Precision is a somewhat reputable brand. Meh. Pulled out machinery's handbook 24th edition to actually compare measurements with spec. See table "ANSI Standard Woodruff Keys (ANSI B17.2-1967, R1990)". 1/8"x1/2" key is out of spec (over) on width. Allowed width 0.125"-0.126", measured across 6 samples 0.1265"-0.1277. So either I sand down to fit the keyway, wrecking the zinc plate, or ??. Fine for a bargain import product I guess, but I paid 3x the "cheap" assortment price. Still cheap compared to McMaster-Carr's assortment offering, so maybe I'm expecting too much? Several other sizes were within spec.The zinc plating on several keys is also defective/partial. Not a majority, but maybe a few percent. There is no country of origin listed on the box. Parts that are made in the US usually proudly display that information. Given the quality I'd guess Precision just gets them from China like everyone else, puts on a sticker, and marks them up 3x. Returning.

It is US made key assortment, so you get exactly what you paid for...quality parts!Please be aware that Chinese made keys may not meet the SAE and/or MILL-SPEC and/or ASTM standards...and then you are liable!Buy American made products!
