This guitar was a Christmas gift for our grandson. He loves it, and he is practicing so he can play a song for us.

First, let me say I am a guitar player, but eventually every guitar player wants to learn a bit of bass. This is my second bass, so from a guitarist perspective who plays a bit of bass, I’ll say I think this is a pretty good entry level rig. The bass itself looks pretty good, but there are some minor blemishes in the finish, and the cut of the pick guard is a bit rough, but from more than a few feet away, you can’t see anything wrong. It desperately needed a good setup before it was playable, but was pretty decent after that.I had to significantly adjust pretty much everything: truss rod, intonation, bridge height, and pickup height (I set it up the way I would a guitar, which I assume holds true for bass as well). The pickup height adjustment screws were already nearly stripped, and seemed to be screwed in at a janky angle. Even after a complete setup I’m still getting some fret buzz here or there, especially playing on the higher frets. I haven’t done a fret leveling yet, but it probably needs one. The frets are actually not too bad. They’re not finished glassy smooth, but smooth enough, definitely playable and the edges aren’t sharp. It had two layers of plastic on the pick guard, and all the hardware was screwed in on top of the plastic. I decided to loosen all the hardware a bit before peeling off the two layers of plastic, and I’m really glad I did. It made it far easier to remove the plastic, then re-tighten everything. The amp it comes with is very small, so it just can’t move a lot of air like a bass amp should. It says it’s a bass amp, but I highly suspect it’s just a relabeled guitar amp. It overdrives and “farts” very easily, even on the clean channel, so that’s why I think it’s not really designed for very low frequency, higher amplitude bass input. When it’s not sounding farty, it still pretty much always sounds like you’re playing into a fuzz pedal. You can only get clean tones on the lowest gain and volume settings. But, otherwise it’s fine for basic practice. The strap is pretty basic, but cotton, which I like a lot better than nylon. The gig bag is pretty good, and fits everything (including amp) with room to spare in the outer compartment.I think for the price, you can’t expect much better than this. I would definitely recommend this kit to any guitarist who want to just play with a bass, in a low risk way, to see if they like it. However, it needed so much setup, and most beginners won’t know how to do this, or be willing to spend 50% of the guitar price to have it done. I’m going to subtract one star for that, and the amp not being well designed for bass. Overall, 4 stars.

This is a nice musical instrument. I started out playing bass almost sixty years ago. I have since moved to mostly guitar, but I still loop some bass as part of backing tracks to solo over. My old bass is in need of repair, so I figured I'd pick up this inexpensive one. I'm very happy with it. First, it came packaged in a styrofoam clam shell over a poly bag. Then there was a box and an outer box. Very well done. The only problem is that I could not find the hex wrench to adjust the action. The hex wrench for the truss rod fell out of the box, when I first opened it. Don't know how that happened, but I suppose the two wrenches got loose and the smaller one is forever gone. No problem, it's a very common guitar size, so most people with a guitar will have one. The tuner is straight trash. This is probably my third copy of the exact same tuner and it simply doesn't work. Now to the positives. The fit and finish are really good. The poly tobacco sunburst is flawless. The neck is smooth and not too chunky. There was a tiny bit of relief in the neck, which is perfect. The frets are smooth and there are no high frets. Also, no sharp fret ends. The volume and tone knobs work smoothly. It tuned up well (with a strobe tuner) and seems to hold tune well after the strings are stretched. The tuning machines were fairly smooth with no looseness. Intonation was already set and the nut is cut very well, meaning the first fretted note was very close to where it should be on each string. If you're a beginner, you'll need to get that hex wrench to adjust the action because the action on mine was insanely high. You'll want to bring the E string down to about 2.4 mm and the G string to about 2 mm. I was actually able to bring the strings down a little lower than that and there was almost no fret buzz. Your mileage may vary, but remember to use a light touch and this instrument will work well for you. I don't really play slap bass, but I gave it a whirl and it seemed fine also. The practice amp is also perfectly fine. It has a mini-USB charging cable and it arrived already charged. I played around with the settings and you'll be able to hear your playing very well without chasing your family out of the house. The supplied cable is surprisingly robust, not the usual off brand cable that comes in beginner packages. The strap is fine to hold the bass, but if you are an athletic bassist, you'll want something a bit more secure. One final note, the bass weight in at 8.6 pounds, not overly heavy n the world of basses. Overall, this is a really nice bass starter kit. Just lower the action and find yourself a workable tuner and it will serve you well.

This is a great way to get started if you want to play bass, without sinking a fortune into getting started. This STRITCH Bass guitar is a really good value on its own. The weight is balanced, the string action is good as are the frets. You might want better strings, but the starting set will get you through. It stays in tune, I think the tuners are fine. It rings of a good instrument tone wise without any amplification, and when plugged into a bass amp, really sounds great. The weight and feel of this bass guitar is pretty good, nicely balanced. The accessories that come along are all pretty decent. The gig bag is good enough for light protection and getting covered in dust when you're not using it regularly.
