This is the perfect fit original manufacturer's part. The anode rod is attached at the factory to the drain plug, so replacing it is as simple as removing the old drain plug and screwing this one in. I recommend using pipe dope to make it easier to remove next time. This sacrificial rod saves your tank, so it is well worth replacing. I check it by visual inspection when I drain the water heater for winterizing, and install the new one when needed in the spring when I de-winterize. I recommend this and buying it through Amazon was about 30% less than buying it at an RV dealer.

For a maintenance task that is fairly simple but important in extending the life of a water heater, this is an item that does what it is supposed to. Even though water heaters in RVs are not that expensive compared to most appliances, it can be expensive and time consuming to replace them.An anode rod is designed to be eaten up over time (keeping the steel tank from getting corroded), so replacing this on a yearly basis is a wise idea.Don't forget -- it is crucial to use Teflon tape (wrapped at least twice around the threads), (or a pipe dope that is suitable for potable water applications) on the threads before screwing it in. If this isn't done, there is a good chance it will electrically weld itself to the tank, requiring a complete water heater replacement later on.Recommended stuff to have on hand for the replacement: Teflon tape, a 1 and 1/16" socket, a fairly long ratchet arm (because the threads can corrode making it hard to get it loosened), and a six inch socket wrench extender. Why choose this over the competition? Two reasons. First, it is US made, and the second, it is made by the same people who made the water heater. This doesn't mean other brands are deficient in any way (The Camco model has a built in drain which helps a lot with winterizing.) It is more of peace of mind that one knows this will do the job.

This product works as expected. I have two things to share. First, the fitment sheet inside the package seems to be out of date. My heater was listed as compatible on the website but the fitment sheet inside the package didn't show my heater model. I compared the new rod with the original rod and they matched in length and diameter so I felt the website was correct. Next, the threads could have been machined better. The new rod didn't screw in as easily as the old rod. I read on a couple of RV forums and found several complaints concerning this issue but the writers used the anode rod and said they hadn't had any problems. I installed the anode rod and it didn't leak around the threads so this wasn't a big issue. I have used the anode rod for about 2 months now and it has worked fine.

I had a 4 year old water heater in my RV and it burned out. On replacing it my son told me that the water where I live was harming the heating unit. An expensive lesson. He started replacing the Anode rod in 9 months and now we do it regularly. These are a water heater saver and cheap to keep on hand for what they do. I would recommend it your water heater uses one of these you keep a spare handy.

Fits like the original, because it is from the original manufacturer. Proper length and teflon tape already installed.

Does what it's made to do. Good for a year +, depending on how much you're using your RV water heater.

For RV owners with aluminum water heaters it is essential to make sure that they always have sufficient reserve on the anode, and replace when it has corroded about 75% of its original size, otherwise the body of the water heater will corrode from the hot water. Certainly this is the cheapest and easiest way to prevent that from happening. Replacement is dependent upon usage. When not camping, remove the anode and drain the tank, and it'll last longer. Keep an extra on hand always.
