I bought a 9mm threaded barrel and end cap not long ago. When I received the item, the threads were dinged up a bit, so the cap would not screw onto the barrel end without some trouble. The manufacturer replaced the barrel and cap just fine, but why waste a perfectly good barrel/cap when all it takes is a little touch up? So I bought this tap and die set for 1/2x28 threads. I used it and it straightened out the barrel and cap threads just fine. No more issues. Very good product at a really good price, and it saved my barrel so now I have an extra!

On a recent build, I used a barrel with "fat" muzzle threads. Muzzle devices with looser tolerances went on just fine, but attachments that used tighter and finer thread tolerances wouldn't go on, and I wasn't going to force them and bugger up those threads.I ordered the "S-Union New 1/2"-28 Gunsmithing Tap and Die Set(1/2" x 28) 22LR 223 5.56 9mm" set here, and I used the outer threading ring cutting die to chase the threads on the muzzle. In my case, I didn't need any additional tools. The threads were already there, so I just had to oil the threads, and then I carefully threaded the cutting die/ring into the existing threads, making sure that I wasn't cross-threading, but going into the existing thread channels on the barrel. That was the most painstaking part of the entire process (but not hard). Next, using only my hand, as though I was tightening a small jar lid, I would make a half turn [little curly metal burrs would come off the threads], and then back off 1/4 turn- removing all of the tiny curl shavings each time. When I was done, the cutter moved up and down the threads like a tightly fitted muzzle device. After chasing the threads in the manner described above, my tighter muzzle attachments went right on, and the fitment felt very firm and tight. I am pleased. -Pleased enough that I came here to write this review.I have not tried the hole tap, yet, so this five star is for the outer ring cutting die, only; for my thread-chasing purposes, it worked perfectly, and the outcome thread tolerances were perfect for the device(s) that I wanted to mount.

Used to cut threads on metal, worked perfect for my intended use. Nice and sharp clean threads and cannot be any more happier.

It works for cleaning up threads. I would not even try threading something with it.

I got a little careless and cross threaded a muzzle device. The tap and die cleaned up both the male and female thread quickly and the device threaded on easily.

The tap is too large for a 1/2 by 28. After tapping a muzzle break it is now too large to fit on any threaded barrel. Warning I only used it to clean the threads on a factory threaded break. It cut enough of the thread to destroy a 50$ muzzle break. Thank God I didn't try it on my supressor first otherwise I would be beside myself. This product is garbage do not buy, it will ruin whatever threads you chase. I would give it negative stars if I could. Hopefully someone sees this review and it saves them
