It looks really great on an outside wall and it matches the picture perfectly. Even though we chose the solar with battery back-up option, it still comes with a nice electric pump. The fountain is exactly what we wanted and that alone would rate 5 stars - though it is pricey for the overall build. The solar panel appears to be well constructed but I was very disappointed to see that it really takes a great deal of direct sunlight to power the pump. I was frustrated to have to move it in many directions even with direct sun - but it required a brighter sun to operate. So if you live in a very sunny place with direct sun you should be fine. But just being sunny is not enough. I now need to find another solar alternative. And yes, there is the plugin that came with the unit.

As the other reviewers have noted, the solar panel only works when the sun is beating down on the panel. When a cloud scuds across the sky, the fountain stops. I have seen no sign that the solar panel re-charges the battery. Perhaps if I lived in the Nevada desert this feature might work. I bought a $20 battery four-pack with a charger at the hardware store and I rotate this through instead. The unit came with two pumps - one plug-in, one for the solar panel. This was a wise move. However, the solar pump does not have a flow modulator, so when the sun is shining and the pump is pumping, it sprays water out of the fountain and onto the ground. I had to solve this particular problem by cinching the plastic tube with a large binder clip in order to slow the flow. Otherwise, the unit looks good and just hangs on the fence, so installation is a breeze.
