Feels heavy. Compared against the Starrich no name brand. Swanson ruler is way heavier, thicker, and wider. The Swanson angle part is also significantly heavier and thicker is all dimensions. The Swanson scribe tool screws into the angle base with a brass textured head, while the Starrich has a black plastic head that plugs into its hole (looks like it will get lost easily). Swanson has a pretty good finish. To reverse the beam/ruler, you have to totally unscrew the brass knob and pull the guide out the top, turn it around, put it back in the hexagonal hole, and put the knob back on. That would be the only downside

so the main points is that it can take a good deal of abuse and remain accurate/square. it also has the level and scribe which i thought i would never use but was quickly proven wrong. the level especially.

Great Combo square. Was accurate out of the package. I did the line test and it came out dead solid perfect. Works great and I use it all the time. Swanson is a great company, and I could not recommend their products highly enough!

As many other verified purchasers indicated on their reviews, the square was not square when it arrived. I fully expected the same and was not surprised to see that the Swanson Combination square was out of square. So I got a small file and spent a bit of time to adjust it so that it is perfectly square. It is not a difficult process; there are YouTube videos on how to do this, one by John Heisz comes to mind. I think I took 20-30 minutes to adjust mine, because I did not have a perfect reference square and had to adjust by drawing lines with the square flipped on one side and then the other until the lines coincided perfectly regardless of which side the square was on.Some YouTube wood workers caution against getting a Combo Square that does not have a hardened or tempered blade based on the fear that if the ruler gets bent, you can never unbend it to allow the ruler to slide smoothly. Since it is not marked as such on the ruler, I assume that the Swanson ruler is not hardened, but it is a thick piece of stainless steel and would take some significant abuse to bend it. I figure, it is more economical to just be careful with it, and on the off chance It step on it or abuse it accidentally, just buy another one rather than spend seven or eight times as much to buy an expensive combo square.

We work in a fabrication shop and these squares have been up to the challenges. They lock down tight and have not lost their alignment over several months of use

This was not square when it came. The rule was straight, and the surfaces on the handle were flat, but the square was not square. I got a small file and filed the little ridge in the throat until the rule was square to the handle.Oh yeah, it has a level built into the handle, although it doesn't mention it on the package. I didn't check it, because I would have had to find something that I was sure was level, and I didn't want to since I'm pretty sure that when I need a level, I will get a level. It also has a scribe threaded into the handle. I checked it to make sure that it would come out and go back in. It did, and quite smoothly, but it's something else I don't think I'm going to use.Now I just have to be careful not to drop it.It's well made, and very cheap, and i didn't expect it to be perfectly square, so I gave it five stars.

When I received this square I was surprised at the quality. For the price I paid I expected a cheap aluminium body, not the quality machined Item I got. I love Amazon.
