I use this barrel mixer (aka drum mixer, barrel stirrer, drum stirrer), powered by a powerful Porter-Cable 1/2" battery-powered electric drill, to periodically stir the contents of a heated 55 gallon barrel during the fermentation of an antioxidative nutritional supplement product. The barrel contents that are undergoing prolonged fermentation are mostly liquid, but the barrel interior has a 10" layer of powdered and granulated ingredients (e.g., grain flours, wheat bran, rice bran, herbs, spices, special ceramic powders, and other nutrients and ingredients) that normally sit at the bottom of the drum, and which must be periodically stirred into the fermenting brew during a 15-week fermentation period to ensure adequate ongoing admixture and fermentation of all ingredients.This tool, when used with an appropriate 1/2" electric drill, provides powerful and effective stirring of the entire contents of the barrel.This particular tool, which I chose only after having performed careful and extensive research (aka due diligence), perfectly fits the bill for the job. It is also easy to clean and store in a sanitary fashion after each use.

This mixer worked great with my battery powered drill in a 55 gallon drum. However the 3 set screws were made of carbon steel which would rust so I replaced them with ¼" - 20 x ½" stainless steel from Ebay

We stir 30 gallon, 55 gallon, and 275 gallon containers. We drive it with a 1/2 inch hammer drill. It works great.
