I agonized over buying one of these (as one often does when shopping on Amazon for a given thing). I wanted some features and I didn't like the weird pear-shaped form factor of the more common tachometers. I optimistically bought this one after a pretty silly amount of consternation. This tach turned out to be pretty good. I tested most of the functions and features and found it missing nothing that I'd need. Durability is still a question, but it feels fine in the hand. As long as you're not throwing it across the shop it should be fine. I intend to use this while working with Bridgeport mill and a lathe. I'll update here if I have an issue later.

The proof will be whether I'm still happy in a year or two, but right out of the box I used the laser mode to make a speed chart for an industrial sized drill press. The drill press is variable speed, and is running through a 3 phase converter which can also control motor speed by changing the hertz output of the controller. I was able to calculate the drill press speed in 5 hertz intervals in each of the 7 speed gradients on the variable speed control, from a low of 177 RPM to a high of 1997 RPM. The meter worked FABULOUSLY for this project. Next up, determining what throttle setting on my Kubota tractor (no tachometer) yields a true 540 PTO RPM. After that, setting the no load speed on my zero turn mower!

does exactly what I needed, its a little annoying it cuts off so quick, but it measures rpm's in inches and meters. pretty cool to see my rc wheels actually have diff rpm's since I installed upgraded diffs to help it climb.
