Nice product. Especially if you are laying out larger steel tubing, with a larger outside corner radius. The added depth, is a big advantage. Highly recommended.

Stair gauges are pretty simple tools and pretty useful even if you don't plan on making stairs. And these are a good value for the money: they are solid machined aluminum with steel screws. They don't need to be strong, just good enough to clamp to your framing square or saw shoe. These, however suffer from two flaws. First, the screws squeak as they spin. No big deal and probably can be fixed with WD40, but sound sensitive people should be aware.Second, the packaging is poor. They come in a small cardboard box without padding, so they bounce together all during shipping. One of the gauges had paint rubbed off from the screw of the other. That spoils the look of a new object but does no harm to the function. Still, one star off for that lack of foresight.

These are a no-frills sort of item. They do what they are supposed to, and that's good enough. Simple, plain aluminum. Light weight. The Good: The gap is large enough to fit on any of the various squares that I have. They were easy enough to screw down by hand, and they didn't move when bumped against another surface. The Bad: They did leave small, circular scratches on an aluminum framing square. I kind of expected that, so I wasn't upset, but if you are going to use these frequently (I won't) or care about the aesthetic condition of your squares, you'll want to be aware of this. They might scratch paint or something as well, if you have a square with a coating of some kind. The Other: Some versions of this sort of thing come with an additional piece of metal that you can attach these to when you aren't using them, making them easy to hang on a peg board or something. These don't have that, so you'll need an alternate means of keeping track of them for storage.

1 of the pair could not be screwed in by hand. Low quality threads
