I read several of the reviews of the various figure 8 calipers before deciding to buy this one. I'm quite happy with the quality of the caliper, the points meet exactly and the tension is easily adjusted. Well worth the money.

Nothing fancy but has a large measuring capacity, works as it should, and is worth the reasonable price. Metal is blued like a gun so it came with a coating of oil. It could rust if moisture is allowed to collect on it so don't. Machining is good with no sharp edges or points. Caliper points close exactly the same on both parts giving an accurate reading. Brass pivot point screw has a wing nut so you can adjust tension. This is good in that you can put the tension where you want it but bad in that it loosens as it is opened and closed repeatedly. I will try a brass lock washer. Should fix it. None of this is a deal breaker for me as it is so simple to tighten if needed and the price is right. I would recommend to a friend.

Generally this is a very good product that does the job and is a good value for the price. But I gave it four stars instead of five stars because it had sharp which had to be filed off or rounded off so it would not scratch the lathed wood.

This works as it should. The steel seems to be of a high quality, and the movement is smooth. My Bowls and Vessels should improve now

Use calipers to set thickness and tighten down. Works better than finger feel for bowl thickness, which is how I done it for years. Turned bowl and use this thickness caliper and was able to get to bottom of bowl 10 x 6.25 deep

I have had to round off the ends as used as they are would put huge scratches into the wood.
