Ordered this after more than 1 bulb planter with the thumb button kept losing the screw(s) that release the plug. Pleasantly surprised by how well this worked, not only to get the correct depth of each and every hole, but also that it cleared the 2" of pine straw and mulch above the soil with ease. The length of the shaft allowed me to stand and bend and drill, shuffle a few inches backwards and repeat. I could drill all the holes first, judge the spacing etc., then plant and cover going forward. The only reason not 5 stars is that a couple of times there was some clay at around 4" and the bit torqued out of the drill. If the shaft had been longer, it probably would have bent or broken, but overall this was worth the money - if there was a set with different widths, I would buy them.

Auger is tough and versatile. I used it to loosen dirt in bigger holes and then used it to mix cement for a deck footing.Big rocks and tree roots make it hard to hold the drill motor which makes sense because this is a 3" drill bit.The edge is not sharpened to cut tree roots but it does go through smaller roots.I think it says "commonly returned". People must have unrealistic expectations on what this should do. It can take a lot of power but IT IS A 3" DRILL. I used it with a 1/2" Ridgid cordless drill on low speed, it would get hot after a couple minutes.Good tool to have for random tasks as well as whatever they advertise it for... Planting flowers? ;)

No more breaking my back digging holes for my bulbs. Planted so many in a short amount of time. This fits right on my drill and was so easy to use. Love the coating on the piece making clean up easy. Great item.

Makes just right hole for planting bulbs. Attach it to your drill and bam you have a hole! You may want a 3/4 drill depending on ground density. Also be alert for roots, power lines etc.This is well constructed and does great job.

Seems like it would work fine in softer earth, not useful for hard clay e.g. Houston Texas.

This item is well built. It has a thicker shaft than many others offered on Amazon.It seems that it should be very durable. So far over 100 bulbs planted. A great time saver.

Does the job for planting bulbs and other things too. Require quite a bit of power from the drill as soon as you do not plant in sand.

Needs to be attached to your drill; use battery-operated drill for large garden areas where.no plug is availsble.This can be a gardener's best friend for planting, daffodils, tulips and other spring bulbs. This auger makes digging the holes to plant bulbs literally "child's play".
